Default Car tax, anyone an expert?

Anyone know anything about car tax rules?

Basically, I have recently moved house and completely forgot to get my vehicle registration address
changed. I therefore have not received any new tax documents (which have probably gone to the old address). I still have a week left on the tax, can I just walk into the PO with my insurance and V5C form or will some jobsworth behind the counter try to get me deported? I tried to ring the “help” line ……obviously not much help ……….

I worked for the PO for years and I am definately not an old grannie. Spare a thought for some of the poor workers in there, the abuse we had to suffer on a daily basis and had to be polite to the abuser. And just for the record some of the grannies were the most rudest people in the world.

You should still be able to tax the car without the reminder and you can put your change of address on the application form.

Good of you to be so polite about the people who work there and have to put up with idiots who can't even remember to tell the authorities about their change of address!

Thanks for your help Leslie, you really are a pleasant and helpful chap. Ever considered a role in the post office?

If you are going to change your address at the time of retaxing your vehicle, you will have to go to the tax office. You can only purchase tax for your vehicle at the PO but cannot amend any details.

Get your tax first - just need the v5, MOT, and insurance. Then sort out the change of address at a later date (fill in relevent box on v5 and post to DVLA swansea)....do it the other way round and you won't be able to tax your car as you don't have the v5 anymore
