Question advise on a cortisone jab needed please......

...just been to the docs for a jab cos ive got carpel tunnel syndrome (CTS). he marked the inside of my wrist with pen then stuck the needle in. i screamed cos i got shooting pains up my thumb and ring finger, he explained that he hit the nerve by mistake....

before i left the surgery my hand was starting to go numb and my index finger was bent. the doc said it should be ok. while i was driving home my whole hand nearly was numb and the gear stick felt a funny shape.it is a bit like going to the dentist when your lips go numb from a jab.
my hand is still numb, is this meant to happen or has the doc done something to my nerve that he shouldnt have done?

my finger is still bent

Your hand may have fallen off before a SNetter with this specialist knowledge comes forward .

Still - that could be quicker than NHS24

Sorry - you're on your own - I'm already late.

Have fun. Sit on your other hand - at least then they'll feel the same

NO.

It's not supposed to be open now.

Most docs use a mixture of local anaesthetic and cortisone. The local can paralyse the nerve for a couple of hours, then should start to wear off. Movement in hand should come back after that, but pain will last a bit longer.
In my experience injections for CTS are not always successful, and usually the cure is surgery.
DISCLAIMER - this is only my opinion, if I'm wrong, and your hand falls off, it's nothing to do with me.

Yes it was - I was waiting for you to finish in the loo to make sure all was OK and that took you over the 6.00pm watershed (in more ways than one).

Refunds are possible - call NHS direct and they'll take you through the process.

See ya - I'm going home now

pheeeeeeeew i was worried that by sticking the needle in th nerve by mistake that it had been perfectly damaged. it doesnt explain why my finger is bent though
are you a doc?

The median nerve is the one in the carpal tunnel - and powers the muscles of your thumb and index finger, and provides the sensation to the thumb, index, miidle, and half of ring finger. So if you anaesthetise the nerve likely to get weakness of thumb and index finger, and loss of sensation.

Yes, am a quack, would like to point out I'm still at work.

Am a GP most of the time, but get called to road accidents for the ambulance service, usually if people are severely injured, or trapped, as I'm allowed to do a lot of stuff the paramedics can't do. Went to about 300 RTAs last year, along with a few shootings, several stabbings, two people run over by trains, and a smattering of industrial accidents - limbs trapped in machinery and so on.
Surgery doors now locked, going to play rugby, then to the pub
