Default Holiday cottages in Scotland recommendations please!

Has anyone rented a holiday cottage out in Scotland, fancy doing it for my birthday, getting one in the middle of nowhere would be nice.

Any cottages or places that have great scenery would be great

Thanks chaps!

We rented a cabin next to Loch Alsh in the Highlands. The views were fantastic. When the water was at low tide we were able to walk to the small islands the opposite side of the loch. The children loved being able to go up in the mountains and drink from the waterfalls. There were a few places close by that were easy to get to as there is basically only one road that leads you to most places. We visited the Isle of Skye when we went there and were lucky to see loads of dolphins. I'd go again tomorrow if I could.

If it sounds like the sort of place you're looking to rent I'll find the agents number.

http://www.mackays-self-catering.co.uk/ these are the people who we rented through. They have places all over so I'm sure there will be something there that will appeal.

Having seen every inch Scotland has to offer, Wester Ross is the most beautiful by far... Long trek though.... 9 hour drive from Mersyside....

Had an Autumn holiday last year in Dumfries and Galloway region, and stayed in this cottage:

Booked through:

Very nice place, quiet, nice open fire in the lounge, lovely area especially Galloway forest. Went up there for the mountian biking, forestry commision have been opening loads of new centres along the Scottish borders. Fantastic roads

Also stayed in this place near Oban: http://www.braesofganavan.co.uk/

Fantastic views across the sea to Mull and Lismore islands. Quite a big cottage though, sleeps 8, really nice. Had unusually good weather the week we were there.

We stayed at a lovely pine log cabin at Spean Bridge near Fort William. In the middle of nowhere and had a whirlpool bath and a sauna which was fantastic. Booked through a company called Blakes. We also stayed up at a place in Skye which was amazing as it was on a cliff edge and you could see seals and dolphins in the sea. I think we booked through Scottish country cottages.

We've just booked this little beauty for a week on Skye http://www.beautifulskye.co.uk/ It's got a lovely interior with no chintz, mismatched furniture or migraine inducing carpet

The people are very nice to deal with too - you book direct with the owners, no agents!

Making me jealous, you lot are!

I've done a bit of travelling in Northern Scotland and Wester Ross is the best, mainland bit, I've seen so far.

If you want to incur the extra cost of a ferry, Harris (bottom bit of Isle of Lewis) is off the scale in terms of beauty and grandeur.
