Think I'll point the g/f at the bbc site, she'll quite like that, seeing as she's "boaty"
Pretty sure she's sailed on a tall ship as well. Bit different from the custom 28 and 41 she races on.

I saw them all when they started the race in Falmouth in '98.. very
Usually see a few out and about on the high seas during my cruising year.... Alexander von Humboldt was following us around the Med in 2002, and last year I saw them all in Cuxhaven, Germany

I saw it when they set sail from Milford Haven 1 year. There was a ship there called the Dar Molidski (sp) that wasn't a tall ship, it was ******* huge!!!!!!

I was lucky enough to spend 11 days on one of these, 'The Winston Churchill' she was called.
Sailed round the Channel Islands and docked in St Malo port in France before returning to Portsmouth harbour.
I was only 16 but will never forget it. It was one of those experiences you never forget

Some of them berthed in Whitby, Middlesborough and Hartlepool en route to the Tyne.
The ships in Hartlepool, the country market, Greek, French, UK and entertainment was very good and made missing the F1 GP worthwhile.
If anybody can make it to the Tyne for Thurday it should be a site to remember.

I sailed in the tall ships race back in '98 on a 55' yacht. It was an excellent event, especially at the ports between legs. All kinds of things were put on in the towns - I went to Stromness, Orkney, and from there down to Aalborg in Denmark whre the event ended, then back to the UK again.
If you get the option, really do go for it, as I think it's a wonderful thing overall, not just the boats, but the cultures, and all the different nationalities that meet up in the ports.
