What about Tunisia as a destination???
I really wanted to go to Egypt this year with tother half but for obvious reasons am not going there. Spent the morning finding other places to go and the best one that came up was Tunisia. The Rui El Mansour, Djerba was the place that took our fancy. I was just wondering if anybody has been there and could give me a rating. I gather from the interweb that it is about 50 percent German tourists + French which is fine as we speak both and we have been to Tunisia before ( Hammemet ) but some helpfull hints would be nice. Tia.

we did skanes this year good weather, good food, good company..
its a bit like egypt, but has a bit more humidity, and things are out of town sightseeingwise..
some hotels cater for mixed nationalities, others split them.. we had a german block and english block and a rest of the world block were we stayed, it was fine it meant we wernt bombarded with towels all the time

No, it's true, when was the last time you heard of any trouble from Libya, they've been really pushing their tourist industry and as long as you don't stray by yourself to borders (which you wouldn't do anyway) there aren't any real problems.
Syria is meant to be good too.
Check on FCO
Libya is safer than Tunisia

Did Djerba a few years back and wished we hadn't. I hated the place. It stank, was dirty, the souks were a rip off, the owners pulling at you to buy their rubbish, locals insulting my missus (almost got into a couple of fights with them), lack of beer, hotel restaurants were like works canteens and not as clean, windy around the beach. Awful, awful place. Never, ever again.

Well have finally made up my mind, Tunisia it is. Had a bit of a quaver yesterday and started looking at Cyprus. Reviews were not very good. Made a mistake with the town tho its Mahdia not Djerba. Mother phoned yesterday and said you do realise Djerba got bombed in 2002 but have checked out FCO site and it seems as OK as it gets. Roll on the Celtia ( perhaps I should have replied to the what beer do you like thread )Thanks for your replies one and all scooby lovers.
