Thats a bit harsh now Paul,
IMHO, a good alternative to the ususal med destinations, nice hotels food Ok, beaches lovely ! Only issue is the harrasment esp if you have a pretty blonde girlfriend
Went in 2000 for a short break in May and had fab weather ( where the normal Med was ****e ), hotel was lgood, Mirimar Hammamet 1/2 board jobbie, and the entertainment laid on every night was quite amusing !
Rgds,
Paul

I was going to go there in Oct this yr but was put off with the Foriegn Office website. Its worth a check. They expect you to speak the lingo as well for buying things etc so I wanted a hassle free 7 day break so booked for Cyprus.

Not too harsh We went last Sept for a week thinking it would be a change from the standard Med type destinations. Before I even got off the airplane you got a smell for the place. Our 5 star hotel was terrible. Nothing worked, the food was terrible and the staff rude and lazy. My GF is very blonde so that didn't make matters any better, but the locals never stop hassling. It was as bad as Cairo! We vowed never to go back, with so many other great places in the world we can visit.
On a plus side it was very cheap out there, the weather was good and the beach was lovely, even if we couldn't swim in the sea for the fear of jellyfish.

I wouldn't go again either. Bloody awful place (as is Tangiers in Morocco). Crap hotel (4* my ar$e) crap food. The whole place was filthy and smelt atrocious. Nicest place we went to was Port El Kantawi (sp?) but that was a very small place with not much activity. We even had a scrap on the beach in Hammamet when some local teenage yobs tried to mug us. They were taught a lesson to say the least

Went a few years ago (quite a few now).
At Airport sitting with a group of about 30 fellow holidaymakers it was agreed that the only way we would come back to Tunisia was if we were at war again (poor reference to Gulf War )
As plane took off huge cheer from just about ALL on board.
It might be better now but the Middle East situation not helping !

Port El Kantoui, this IS where we stayed. Yes, lovely port, very pretty, clean and has 2 maybe 3 resonable restaurants. But outside of that it is terrible. 'Specially that little zoo thing . Out hotel was right outside the port. Looked impressive, but still not good.

Went to Hammamet(sp) a couple of years back ! our hotel was great ! the area was OK. the people were a shower of robbing barstewards!!! we did the Sahara safari would well recommend that.
You do get loads of hassle!! one guy nickrd the hat off my head to get me in his shop at one of the madenas(sp) so i went in and helped myself to one of his leather jackets, next thing there are 3 other shop owners around me !! After a few choice words from me they saw sense and I got the hat back!
that said it is a nice place to see and it is different!
BTW if you go take some whiskey!! you have no idea what you will get in return !!!!

I'vew been but it was years ago, about 10 and it was Ok. Our hotel was awesome and the food was very good and loads of it. When eating out though it was couscous suprise with a garnish of couscous and couscous fritters sprinkled with couscous. Oh and couscous for starters to. Desert was couscous.
Markets were Ok but got hassled a bit and they singles out the english by shouting out fish and chips and eastenders !
Saw the sun rise over an oasis in the Sahara aftr a long camel ride and that was an awesome sight I'll always remember. I also saw where the filmed Star Wars which was cool.
Would I go back..mmm not sure think Cyprus is nicer and Denmark was better still but expensive.

went to Hammamet last year ... great weather, great ppl, great food. Food seems to vary between hotels though from what I heard. Nonetheless would recommend it, especially only 2 1/2 hour flight ... quicker than to Greece

went to port el kantoui 5 star hotel loved the holiday but had an upset stomach for a few days.watersports are dirt cheap.£10 for paragliding.£10 for quadbike safari into the hills.£12 for jetski.acomplete mix of nationalities in the hotel.would go back for some cheap luxury.a bit different from your normal holiday.
