Pete
does actually say

"If you think the UK motorist is being over taxed, please sign our e-Petition."

ie we are being over taxed now, doesnt mention anything about INCREASE in taxes.

yeah, petrol prices have gone up due to a lot of factors, but Pete, we have been paying over the odds on taxes for a long time now.

I don't give a flying F**K about this useless petition either. As long as prices keep rising my investment does too. Enough to pay for years of fuel even at sky high prices.
This petition is a waste of your time, numpties.

While you're at it why not jump up and down shouting "it's not fair, it's not fair". Should do about as much good as this load of old carp.

The Government, this one and any other, collects taxes from many different sources such as VAT, income tax, national insurance, duty on fuel and alcohol and car tax. All of this money goes into a big pot and is then distributed according to the budget the Chancellor sets out. Therefore, if duty on petrol were to be reduced one of the taxes would have to be increased or funding to the public services reduced, read hospital closures. It is a fallacy that car tax is put back into the roads.

If taxes were taken from just one source, say income tax, we would see income tax of over 50%, which is quite clear but would also see the Government thrown out for taxing us too highly, despite them not actually raising taxes. The use of 'stealth taxes' such as VAT and the various duties is the only way people can be tricked into paying the tax that is required to run the country.

mind you that wouldn't make any difference to people who don't pay national insurance.

Done. I'm a firm believer that if you don't like something you should speak up. If you don't, you forfeit the right to bitch about it!

I don't understand this sense of futility that pervades this country when it comes to government. It is supposed to be YOUR government, not a law unto itself (hard to believe sometimes I know). Democracy is a two way street: Maggie Thatcher certainly heard the public when the poll tax was introduced! The only certainty is that if no-one speaks up, nothing willl change!
