Question Dyson vacuum question

Morning all,

Our Dyson (DC5 I think it is called), any way the upright version has lost it's suction, and typically, it is just our of the 3 year warranty (Doh).

I cannot see any blockages and have checked all the connections etc.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Do any of the high street shops (Currys for example) offer a repair service.

Any advice will be greatly received......

Richard

Either the belt has come off or the filter at the bottom is blocked, which can be removed and cleaned. Also clear the vents at the top of the bagless dust chamber - they become blocked sometimes.

Does the flexible pipe still suck?

when you say you've checked all the connections have you taken every hose off it and cleaned the filter, if so the try taking the the cylinder off and washing it thoroughly, the little holes get clogged up and cause it to lose suction.

when you say lost it's suction do you mean all of it or just some?

Ours just cuts out after about 10mins, could be overheating, could this als be caused by those little holes being blocked?
I've cleaned the filter many times....

could be BUT dyson did have a faulty batch of motors which caused them to cut out due to overheating. If in warranty give them a call.

Smile Thank You + Other Notes

I will have to check the model number - maybe it is a DC02 (upright one with the clear cylinder on the front).

Anyway,

We have cleaned the filter and checked all the "air ways" are clear, and given it a good clean.

PS We do have someone to clean the house every two weeks, and they are, let us say, not very careful with the Dyson.

The flexi pipe and the "head" part have both lost suction and the Dyson makes a whistling noise when switched on (obviously no noise when switched off ).

The motor does not appear to be getting hot.

PS I celebrated my 5th Wedding Anniversary yesterday (14th) and the Dyson is not the only thing to have lost suction in my house

- just had to lower the tone on a Friday.

Have you taken the rollers and bottom plate off and checked the side passage that takes dirt into system. This gets blocked easily. Fiddly bloody job.

Dyson have an excellent Help Line so have phone and machine in front of you and take it from there.

Phone the Dyson number on the stickers and arrange a service call. My mate did this with his when it packed up out of warranty. They (used to ) have a fixed charge, and the bloke who fixed my mates came to his house, spent 2 hours cleaning it thoroughly, fitted 5 new parts 2 of which were "major", and charged IIRC IRO £45 (this was about 3 years ago though).

You may well find that when you take the bottom plate off to clean it inside that everything is quite seriously blocked. Not too difficult to do as was said and it makes a world of difference.

If Dyson cant help you over the phone let me know before you book them to call out. They will charge you £45-50 even if they dont use any spares . I work In a shop that repairs these cleaners all day every day and know what goes wrong with them

Our Dyson is one of those wee ones with the long stretchy pipe; shes a bit tempremental. You have to switch on the power and then pull the wire out of the winding storage hole thing until it reaches a certain length and she decides to start sucking!

We paid 60 quid for a service on our 4 year old DC03. For a fixed price they will replace anything that needs it...

Ours had a new dust collector bin and yellow bit inside, hangle, power cord, drive belts, brushes, stair attachment, and wheels.

Bargain.
