Unhappy Help needed resetting my house alarm

When we bought our house I never thought to ask the previous occupants what the code was for the alarm, this wouldn't be a problem as we don't normally use it, however, my numptie mate has pressed the panic button by the front door and as I haven't got a reset key for it I've had to cut the mains supply to the alarm itself, and disconnect the internal battery.

What I want to know is, do the manufacturers build these things with a default access code, which you can use to reset them, and if so how do I find out the code for mine? or am I going to have to call somebody out at an exhorbitant rate to do it for me.

Surely you must have contact details for the previous owners?

If not, you may be able to contact them through your/their solicitors, perhaps?

From a conveyancing legal perspective, normally it is contractually stipulated that all this should have been left for the new owners, if not the buyer has x days (normally 7) to flag to the sellers conveyancer.
I presume it is over 7 days since you moved in, so the solicitor may be reluctant to get involved.

Sorry forgot to mention, we've been in the house for nearly five years the previous owner were relocated on the other side of the country by his employers.

Some control panels reset once powered down to a factory default code, most however do not. They retain the info whatever and unless you have the relevent manual for the control panel your stuck.
The alarm company don't keep and code details, we certainly don't. They do however have an engineering code which again depending on the make might allow you to reprogramme a code, doubt you'll get a company to give it you though.

I would guess that it may be the same, and it does contain information about resetting Non Volatile memory and re-programming the system.
If you read your mail, you will find my e-mail address.
Send me an e-mail and I will attach the pdf document to the reply
