Default Ebay sale query - any advice?

All

I put an ad on ebay to sell an Orange M2000. I marked it as UK only with shipping to UK only. I also put on a 'Buy It Now'

Today, just 1 day later, some bloke from Malaysia, but currently in Nigeria , has triggered the 'buy it now'. He's also sent me the following mail:

-------------
Hello,

I would like to pay for this item via postal order, you know
my
address is in malaysia, but right now i'm in nigeria,i was sent there
on a business mission, and i want to give it to my friend as a brithday
gift, so i will like to know if you can ship it to nigeria,i dont
mind paying any amount for the shipping cost, pls if you can do this
for me i'll be very grateful.if you accept kindly send your full name
and address which am going to send the check to. Here's the shipping
address.
mr Stephen malone bratt

13 idera lane

off western avenue
sururlere lagos

23401

nigeria

pls reply ASAP.

-------------

Views? How should I proceed? I'm a bit hesitant to share my address with him but, at the back of my mind, I can't help thinking that if I get the money first, it should be OK.

What should I do? What CAN I do in eBay terms?

Stu

Dont even consider it - Send him an email stating the auction clearly stated UK only and relist it. Ask ebay for confirmation that it is not a highjacked account.

Cheers...my views too.

Bit much though cos it now costs me another £7 to re-list. Is this an ebay scam to raise profits?

Looking round the forums on ebay, it looks like there have been a spate of them over the last 24 hours.

when i had my 205 gti on ebay and autotrader last year i got half a dozen of these, from malaysia, holland and ireland.... it's obviously dodgy, they started offering more than i wanted for the car. here in somerset we barter down not up

people have lost money though, the money appears to clear and then it's stopped or something.

i doubt if ebay are doing it to get more fees.

cheers matt

This scam has been going on a while now.

A mate of mine has listed his V3 motorola 4 times now due to a dodgy ******** in nigeria! It cost him £20 in fees!

Dont put a buy it now price on it and i bet he wont bid again! Start off with the lowest you'll take for it!

If you say yes to accepting his postal order, then he will find a problem with sending a postal order and want to pay you by some other dodgy method instead.

We have nearly 2000 feedback on Ebay and come across this all the time. It usually involves paying by Western Union.

when you re-list be sure to only allow bids from countries you post to. £7 to re-list..are you using a high reserve price? Why not just set the start price as the reserve, surely this would be cheaper.
