Google Earth
Hello
I've just downloaded Google Earth (here: http://earth.google.com/) and it's really impressive. A bit American oriented of course.

Is this pretty much the same as the Nasa North Wind or whatever that was posted a couple of months back? Not calling SIAL, just asking for a functionality comparison
ETA: It was "World Wind" http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthrea...highlight=NASA

Yes there is. I can zoom in on my house, but it's fuzzy as they have only loaded the low quality satellite images. You can zoom in on parts of London quite successfully.

Go to Google home page.
Click on "more>>"
Click on "maps"
In top right, click on "satellite"
Then take the picture and drag it to where you want (eg England) to the centre of the screen. Whack the zoom up a couple of notches. Centre again,
then zoom, then centre, then zoom. (If you want, you can just put it at high res and keep dragging, but you tend to get lost).
My house here is perfectly visible. The Sussex one is under a cloud!!

Google maps is pretty good, will be even better when there's full UK coverage.
If you check the north London reservoirs (by Tottenham Hale station) and zoom in you'll see the satellite caught a passenger airliner in one of the photos

Ironically I only found this yesterday afternoon when a guy in the office showed me.
He's showed everyone else this morning, and I think productivity has temporarily troughed...

Some areas are much higher definition than others...
This is where I usually launch my boat:

Cool stuff
