Default MMR JAB

Has anyones littluns had this recently ?

Any side effects ? My first 3 kids didn't react at all maybe a little temperature for a day but that was it. My littlun had his last Tues and from Thurs he has been completely out of sorts. And since Yesterday has come out in an awful red rash all over his body and face......

He is seeing the doc this evening to get checked. But I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this sort of reaction and what was the outcome.
He has also become quite chesty but he has been having this way before the jab.

Be good to hear from any of you peeps and your outcomes. Just for a bit of re-assurance.......

nothing really happened til the 7th day after micky had his jab, then full on temperature and cold like symptons, lasted about 2 days then cleared up... no rash tho, be interesting to see what the doc says that is... i know they all react differently to these jabs!

my friends little girl came out in a rash about 10 days after the MMR, her mum took her to the docs straight away in panic... doc couldnt put finger on what it was, it looked like flea bites for want of a better word, anyway, gave calpol and next day they were gone....didnt seem to bother her at all, they just looked awful... and of course big panic that it MMR reaction... anyway... to cut a long story short... the little one kept coming out in this rash... evrything was blamed and cat got rid of etc etc... til one day whilst trawling the net i came across a thing about strawberries.... yup she was allergic to strawberries!!!

See what the doc says, you may well end up even more panicked with responses from here!

Hope it all works out fine tonight!

I did think that. But I feel like I want to know as many possible outcomes ASAP. I'm a bit of a panicker when it comes to my littluns and have had all sorts running through my head......

Sure and so far so good, it just always worries me that somebody will come on with a poorly thought out and unrelated (we haven't seen your child and most of us aren't qualified to make a diagnosis and comparison anyway) condition that has some vague similarities and send and already concerned parent off in a complete flat spin panic.

Really ? The only problem is he has been no where near strawberries. Def. not heat rash its too prominent. It actually does look like measles which i know is possible to get a measle rash symptom its just he has been so low for quite a few days now.......

He just clings to my wife constantly doesn't want to know anyone else, and before, he was always so sociable......

IIRC the MMR is actually a live vaccine, but crippled. It can, I believe, cause mild effects of the disease it latterly prevents as it is activating the imune system to produce antibodies.

However, best advice I can give is stay calm, relax and see the doc tonight!

Cheers Olly for your advice. I will post here later to let you know what the doc says.

MMR gave one of my kids absolutely zero reactions. Other one reacted pretty badly, in the way you decribe (in terms of rash) for a couple of days.

It disappeared of its own volition, and all we did was to dose with Calpol etc. Get to the doctor though, to be sure; they're used to it by now, and 10 minutes of their time is well-spent in allaying your fears.

My firends little girl had hers last month.
She was fine for the first few days then came out in a rash just like you describe. Also very clingy and not herself at all. She had cold symptoms too.

It shouldn't be anything to worry about and I'm sure the doctor wil just say its a reaction. But like you say always best to get it checked.

My little boy was due his a couple of weeks ago but he was full of cold so I put it off until he's better.
It could be that your son was due for a cold anyway so his immune system was already fighting that and then hasn't been able to fight of a measles reaction? Just a thought???

I hope he feels beter soon.
Lots of fluids, keep him cool and lots of cuddles.

Cheers Peeps. All is appreciated.

We have been up at the docs and basically not really any the wiser. She did say it was quite an extreme reaction but she would def. say it was from the MMR jab. However she did get another doc in to give a second opinion and he too agreed it was the mmr reaction. They gave him a real good seeing over and checked absolutely everything, but could not find anything out of the ordinary. So they said just dose him up and prescribed some Piriton and if he is no better by Friday to take him up there again.

So I suppose I will have to wait til then.

So so. Still isn't right but he did give me a cheeky grin when I left for work this morning. Which I suppose is a good sign.

MOK79- i Hope your little one recovers ok, regaining the cheekiness is always a good sign

Just to tag on to this thread, I have read that babies allergic to egg can't have MMR. My Son has a severe Dairy allergy so what do they give them instead? Anyone know?

The MMR jab is fine: http://www.drgreene.com/21_675.html
Some others may be an issue however (covered above) and may require a skin test before hand.

Just thought I would let you peeps know he is alot better. He got up this morning around 5.30 and I was actually able to play with him for the first time in a while. He was even chuckling away like he was before. (Great to see).

Then just before 7 he fell a sleep on my lap so I think he is now playing catch up.

Thanx for your thoughts and suggestions, was much appreciated.

Unhappy

Just spoke to the wife. Littlun is defo much better and on his way to recovery. However she phoned to say our 3 yr old has just fallen off his scooter and went flying. He has knackered 3 of his fingers, maybe broken, Chunks out of his hands and cut up all his face.

What a nightmare. What a week

Your boy probably got a mild dose of measles from the MMR vaccine itself - quite common apparently and should be harmless. Should be back to his old self within days. My lad is 2 now and loads of his little friends had various different reactions to the MMR and all are totally fine now. It's easy to say don't worry, but I know you will anyway - it's a parent thing! He'll be fine

thanx scoobyangel and scoobypreza.

Actually his fingers are just badly cut and bruised. He's a tough little cookie anyway so thats cool. But his face is a right mess looks like he has gone 10 rounds with Tyson. He is well pleased now though cause my eldest keeps saying how hard he looks.
