They will say they want more money soon.....
They did that to us. They speed up the connection, let you enjoy the increase, and then in a few months you will get a letter.
The letter will tell you that they are now upgrading the lines, and, for free you can have a much faster internet conenction. The catch is that now impose a much lower monthly limit of download capacity. I forget how it all worked out exactly, but for us it ended up being close to £70 per month extra (we are heavy users)
Needless to say we are no longer with them

Pipex gave me a free upgrade to 1M then 2M but as I was on extended reach it wasn't possible .576M is plenty quick enough anyway
Glad you're finally happy Pete The best things in life are free - like sarcasm, irony, trolling etc It is amusing though, carry on and in the words of Hughy Green (sp?) "I mean that most sincerely"

Yeah, the sting is the 15Gb monthly cap......anymore than that and you have to pay per Gb.
Before, on the 1/2Mb link there was no limit. We used to have a total bandwitdh requirement of about 60Gb/month
So our "free" upgrade was going to cost a fortune. Anyway, we have now moved and pay less than half as much and still get the 2Mb but with no cap www.e7even.com

Well done mr.lewis, up with the times as usual posted 11th feb!
after receiving the same upgrade months ago, and still not happy with the price I was paying, I switched to f9, part of the plusnet group. Im on 2mg pay as you go for now, which is £14.99 month for a 2mg line. Installation and transfer was free. Download limit is only 1gb a month, which I exceeded in the first month and got charged a whopping £1.25p for another gb!
I was paying £27 a month for bt, and I'm not downloading stuff with bittorrent or similar, so probably wasn't anywhere near my usage allowance.
Have a good look around the bt site pete, they were going to introduce a usage meter just as I left, so you can see how much you are actually using. You may find your nowhere near your allowance too, and be able to move to a cheaper provider.

Your line is a non-BT line (via LLU). You pay £10.50 pe rmonth to Bulldog for your line rental and then can get the 8mb broadband as mentioned above.
Unfortunately Bulldog haven't unbundled many exchanges yet (you can check yours by going here: http://www.bulldogbroadband.com/).

I thought I saw this thread the other day.
Pipex have just upgraded mine free of charge from supposedly 0.5M to 1M, which all existing customers are getting in line with competition, but it's showing 2.2M.
Maybe it's a mistake and they'll drop it to 1M?
The thing is I'm convinced it's slower!! I'd rather have 0.5 back if the last few days are anything to go by!
