When would you prefer deliverys?
Ok, this may sound like a stupid question but I need a little input, I am in the process of setting up a furniture company and trying to work out what days would be better for delivering furniture?
Option 1
Monday to Friday 9am - 6pm
or
Option 2
Friday, Saturday or Sunday 9am - 7pm
I was guessing weekends would be better but then I thought maybe people are busy doing other things?
as always any help appreciated!

I like it when companies insist upon delivering during the working day so we have to take a half or a full day off and wait for them...
Seriously, evenings or weekend would be best.

I will be doing all of the deliverys myself so I want to be able to have some time off, I also need to be able to do a minimum of four deliverys a day so I need to be able to say to the customer "anytime friday saturday sunday" when would you like it.
I will be covering the whole of england and wales so I was hoping to offer 2 hour time slots for delivery. I was also hoping the roads wouldn't be so busy at weekends so I could give a more accurate arrival time.
Thanks for everyones input so far its a great help!

It's good to see someone using a bit of initiative for a change.
Why don't companies realise that the people with money have to work all day for it. Therefore deliveries during working hours Monday-Friday are no good for us! If you want a Saturday delivery then you usually have to pay a premium for it, and wait around all day for them to turn up. So yes your scheme sounds good
In most other countries the shops also open in the evenings. Everyone moans about the death of high street shops, I would love to get stuff from the local butcher, green grocer, deli, etc. why don't they open at say 1pm then stay open till 8 or 9.

speaking as someone who has packages of various things delivered pretty much every day of the week...
it drives me insane when they say 'between 8 and 5' as it can sometimes effectively write your whole day off.
Specify morning or afternoon, or an actual 2 hour window- and include saturdays.
just my 2 euros worth.

I'd echo what others have said, you need to deliver when people will actually be around to receive goods. If I'm told once more to "make sure there's someone in between 8am and 6pm" or similar, I'll scream.
So, evenings and weekends are by far the best - at least, they would be for me - but if you can't manage that, a phone call giving an hour's notice would go a long way. I can't take a whole day off work to sit around waiting any more than you can, but I can nip home for 20 minutes during that time. The phone call also reassures your customer that you really are going to arrive when you said you would.

Less of a problem on the time of day, but rather actually deliver when you say you will.
I'm sure we've all had to in wait for a delivery only to have them run late, miss time slots, not deliver on the day promised, etc, etc.

Great Idea.
There will ALWAYS be circumstances beyond your control, traffic, weather, or whatever that means you cant make a delivery slot, but if you have contact details for the person receiving the item, calling them in advance with an accurate arrival time would be perfect.

I only live 10 mins away from work and when ever I get deliveries I ask the company to ring me on my mobile so I can meet them at home. Certainly saves time off from work, also helps to stop my employees thinking it's one rule for one and one rule for the boss

Any evening is fine, why is it only now are parcel companies just realising that of the UKs population what probably 70% are not in during the day, the *only* time when they make deliveries???? so they are starting to do later deliveries, been a real bug bear of mine for years and years.

Y ep I'll echo the 'deliver when you say you're going to deliver' and the 'give a *short* time period (say 2 hours or so) to deliver in' comments. Plus a phone call an hour or so before you turn up would be superb.
Oh, and a contact number for the *delivery man* (i.e. you!). There's always going to be the case of someone having to go out suddenly (kids ill, e.g.). It really hacks me off with Parcelfarce when the office says they have no way of contacting their drivers! Yeah, probably 'cos they employ neandrathrals who have trouble with modern telecommunications equipment!
And good luck!
