Hammamet - Tunisia
Anyone been?
Specifically the 5* Hotel Royal Azur
As per other Holiday thread, we are looking to get away for a week in July and this seems good value. However, never been to Tunisia so looking for any unbiased views.
TIA.

Hope you have strong guts.... Tunisia is renowned for bad tum syndrome.
I saw it first hand, luckily, my guts must be pretty resistant, but the rest of my group fell like flies.

I went a couple of years ago.. Had one Immodium day not the most pleasant day of my life. Other than that it was a pretty good holiday. If you're a Star Wars fan there are tours down to tatouine and that's a bit of an eye opener as the natives were using the old promo posters as wallpaper still - 25 years later when I went! It's bloody hot (think 40's) and the market people are mostly pushy little sods but we had a good crack anyway.

I went in October 2002. Bloody hole of a place, came back a week early!
I did met my other half who was also holidaying there during my 6 day stay. I'd best say that meeting her was the only good thing to come out of going. As she reads the posts on here...
Lets just say we wouldn't go back.

I went last year but stayed in the more 'up market' Yasmine Hammamet, it's far nice than hammamet. I stayed in a very nice Spanish owned hotel, expensive but nice.
I was fine for 6 days then the guts went big time, I was doubled up, bed bound for 4 days and 6 injections later I was feeling ok. The sarah desert tour is a must do if you go as the Oasis's are awesome.

we went some 6 years ago now. The hotel was a 4* and was tops !
Do the Sahara tour ! Excellent !
I was fine until the very last cheese roll I had....made for an interesting flight home.
I am not the most mild mannered person in the world and was on a few occasions wound up by the locals at the madeina (sp) They will try and rip you off ! They see it as their right !
One guy stole the hat from my head to get me in to his shop. I helped myself to one of his leather jackets. I was then faced with half a dozen or so of his fellow traders however once they got the idea that I wasnt too best pleased I was given back my hat and was given a form of appoligy.
I enjoyed it but prob wouldnt go back. Nice to experience though.

Tunisia - Best weight loss programme there is. Went on honeymoon there many years ago and within two weeks of returning I'd lost over two stone. And I was skinny before I lost it. Environmental health calling round for samples didn't help much either some tunisian strain of salmonella apparently. Wife was really ill as well. AVOID!

Went to Hammamet back in Feb '92. Nice hotel but nothing much to do outside of the compound. Locals always want stuff off you. One guy wanted some hair gel. A guy down the market kept me looking at his nice rugs whilst his mate had his arm around my ex-misses stroking her boobies!! The journey from the airport to Hammamet was like driving through Iraq!
Didn't like the place, wouldn't go back.

Cheers everyone.
As someone mentioned, it's probably not the best idea to take someone who will be 6 months pregnant to a place that suffers with food/drink poisioning! Also the temp. issue is something I hadn't considered to be honest.
Looks like Greek Islands or Balierics (sp?) then.
