Went last month- really enjoyed it. Was quite hot though, June/ August/ August temp rises to mid 40's.
Like you said there's some really good deals. We booked 3 weeks in advance and paid £360 AI 4*But a couple we met in Cairo paid £300 AI for 4.5* because they booked 2 days in advanced. If you're flexible, i suggest getting a last minute deal.
You must go diving in the red sea- amazing!

Its a good diving spot, and generally good fun, providing you remember you're going to a relatively poor country, so you'll have lots of people swarming about trying to sell you things, and make sure you keep valubles safe.
I got very ill from (im guessing) the food, as used only bottled water (make sure you do that too), as a lot of the local shops sell out of date food, so watch for that, but there are some decent restaurants about, and fresh fish is probably your safest bet for meat.
The divings good, not much in the way of bigger animals down there, but interesting enough, and the hotels are generally good too, so worth going.

I qualified in the UK, doing my open water in horrible dirt lakes, and my first proper dives were in the Red Sea.
All I know is I absolutely cr4pped myself when I realised what 20 meters looks like in clear water!! I had no concept of just how deep it feels when you're down there, went from being able to see about 1 meter in front of me, to over 20 meters, freaked me out a bit, and didnt really enjoy that first dive, LOL, my air only lasted about 15 minutes!!

It is probably very, very cheap for a reason!
After several years of relative calm, Egypt has suffered a series of suicide attacks over recent weeks, just as it prepares for its first multi-candidate presidential elections in September.

According to the fco website547,000 British nationals visited Egypt in 2004 and most visits were trouble-free.

Good luck.

they have a habit of filling emptys and resealing.... got caught myself that way...
my take on the squits..
i reckon you get the squits because of the amoutn of water or other liquids you pump into your system... i was drinking litres of highly mineralised water when i got over there, and lo and behold the squits..
just come back from tunisia.. just drank bacardi & coke in moderation, and cokes ... no squits...

make sure you stay as near to Naama Bay as possible as its the busiest area at night. Saying that most hotels would run a courtesy bus in and you could get a cab back.
Plenty of good resteraunts and The Camel Bar.
The Hard Rock is like a night club (pay to get in after a certain time) but you can get in early and have a meal (very reasonable compared to UK).
They have got Pacha, but not been in there to be honest.
After a days diving there is nothing like sitting watching the world go by with a bottle of Sakar and a shisha!!!

If your not going on excursions, DONT pay for a Visa when you get there.
The weather next week is 101 degrees, then 102, then 103
Better get some factor 8
