I got mine on ebay, US import, it will come with a US two-prong power pack but all you need is a cheap UK plug adaptor. I got one for about 59p in Woolies. Comes with mac and pc software.
The thing that plugs in the top is an iTrip, basically a little fm transmitter. My mate's got one, can't say i was too impressed.
Deffo get a silicon case for it, you only have to look at the bloody thing and you scratch it
Well worth it though, I paid £209 for a 30gb photo, plus 59p for a plug. Can't beat it!

I think the Monster FM transmitter is better than the Griffin iTrip, because it charges the iPod as well as doing the FM transmitty thing. I got one in the US (and an iPod...) but it was dearer than here -- IIRC about $75-$80 as against £32.95 from www.expansys.co.uk
Works pretty well though. Got it because the wife's car is a Merc and the iPod CD changer interfaces for Mercs are £200!
US price for a 30GB photo is $349. Shuffles are really cheap -- $100 (just over £50!) for 512MB and $150 for 1GB. Cheap as a memory stick, let alone an MP3 player.
If you get the silicone rubber case, make sure it fits your iPod. The 30GB photo is slightly thicker than the 20GB and 40GB iPods, so the cases for those don't fit properly. And, of course, the 60GB photo is huge. I got a clear plastic case for mine -- it wasn't what I wanted but within 2 days I'd dropped it on the concrete floor so it's paid for itself already
