can you settle an arguement...
The wife and i are going on hioliday shortly,
you know the scene, men travel light, and women bring half of the wardrobe and then some....
we have a 22kg limit on each bag...
now i know mine is no where near that, but i reckon the wifes will be over the 22kg...
quick question....
if her bag is 25 and mine 10 total 35, i reckon it should be ok, as we are within the 44kg allowance for both of us, or are airlines petty and will charge her for an overweight bag, despite being within the overall limit??

It is also a good idea to put half your clothes in your wifes case and half hers in your case and that way if one case gets lost you will still have something to wear, a bit buggered if both your cases get lost! Dont be so tight and share your case!!!!

Think they may try and charge depends on how their day has been. Anything to make a few quid more. May be wrong though. Someone from work was on way back from holidays one time, had a few thousand more smokes more than allowed. Customs told her she would have to pay duty on them. So when she realised that she did not have the money on her, asked if she could go home for her bank card (30mins away) to pay duty. They told her no and took them off her.
Why not put some of her stuff in your bag just to be sure you wont get a charge

We always have one suitcase well over the individual allowance and have never had a problem - but then again we have got two teenagers who qualify for the full allowance - I'd have thought you should be OK - but I do like the idea of mixing things between cases - not that any of ours have ever been lost but it does seem like a sensible precaution

You shouldn't have a problem as long as any one suitcase does not weigh more than 35kg, or sometimes 30kg as thats the limit airlines use as a maximum weight for 1 item of luggage - to do with health & safety and lifting heavy objects.

The last time I flew with Virgin, they would not accept bags that weighed over 32kgs, despite having an allowence of 2 bags (weighing 32kg each) per person. Total weight 64kg's Per Person
If one bag weighed 10kg and the other weighed 40, you had to remove 8kg from one into the other.
There were suitcases open all other the terminal
Its nothing to do with the luggage allowance on the plane, its the Health and Saftey restrictions on lifting the bags.

If you're going to the 'States, fly out with empty cases and treat yourself to a new wardrobe whilst your out there for 1/4 the price of the UK

every time i go away mine is always the biggest but they always add the whole family's together and do it that way.
if you are worried put some of the missus stuff in bags at the top of her suitcase and if you get a **** at the check in then its easy to just transfer her stuff to yours without anyone seeing her smalls HTH
