Question How to get digital photo from an x-ray?

Hi, I have some x-rays which I need as digital images so that I can insert them into a report (in MS Word). They are engineering ones, being used to demonstrate weld quality etc.

Before I start making a home-made lightbox and attempting to photograph it all with the digital camera... has anyone had any experience of this kind of problem and could you point me in the right direction please?

Thanks,

Nick

Cellotape it to a window (inside) and shoot from the inside out.

Make sure you have a plain background outside or you'll have a tree/dustbin inserted where it shouldn't.

Seriously, I've done this a few time, although with medical xrays, without problems, you can even get someone to hold a white sheet outside to provide a plain background - if they stand a few feet from the window the light will still go the X ray

As regards the technical side - it depends what camera you are using, but at least with digital you can see the results straight away

You need to leave a gap of a few feet between the backdrop and the glass which the xray is stuck to otherwise light won't be able to pass through - xray film isnt totally transparent - its the same as holding a negative upto the window to view it, if you put the negative on a white sheet of paper it will still look totally black.

what's wrong with just scanning the X-ray with a white piece of paper on top of the image

Thats why you cant scan an xray with a piece of white paper on it, light needs to pass through it
