Fantastic news
Lets hope that there isn't some "technicality" that means that Chirac still gets his evil way.
At least France gave it's citizens a chance to vote. I wonder what Bliar will do?

Yup - very interesting news. At least it lets Blair off the hook......
Current BBC web site news:-
"French voters have rejected the European Union's proposed constitution in Sunday's referendum, President Jacques Chirac has said.
The vote could deal a fatal blow to the constitution, which needs to be ratified by all 25 members states.
With 85% of votes counted the "No" vote stood at almost 56%, according to interior ministry figures.
Mr Chirac accepted the voters' "sovereign decision" - but said France would honour its European commitments.
In his short TV address, he added that the rejection created "a difficult context for the defence of our interests in Europe"."

and its a moot point now.... the constitution thing is dead... all 25 states had to agree..
mind you a uk vote might make the powercrazed dwarf think twice about the people he has systematically f*ked over the last 15yrs
british bastille day,, a day to look forward to!!

He promised us a referendum in a moment of weakness, and has regretted it since. So, as the French have rejected the constitution, it gets Bliar well & truly off the hook.
After all, if he'd instigated a referendum and lost, he'd be obliged to resign. Conversely, if he'd offered us a referendum, then won, he'd be able to retire, having secured his place in history.... As a traitor....

I must say the French have gone right up in my estimation
Well "Billy" will still have a hard time during the UK Presidency of the Eu. I hope he is held to allowing a referendum anyway just so we can give him a hard time.
Hope the French manage to kick that creep Chirac out and maybe the Italians might get rid of the other criminal Berlusconi, Billy's great mate!

Leslie - The French have saved us all.
Vive Le France!!
What a shame we cannot rely on our own people to vote correctly when they are given the chance.
