Default Does anyone ever actually.......

Look at the flyers, advertising leaflets which come in glossy mags? I tend to have them all out and in the bin before I get anywhere near my comfy armchair to read the mag in question. (not smutty ones either )

I assume these companies must do their marketing homework and the leaflets must work, just not with me? ...

Anyone ever read them and reply to them?

Same here, turn magazine upside down, flip the pages and release all the unwanted junk back onto the shelf before buying!

A friend found something interesting in one a few weeks ago. Software to clean up LPs and record them to CD. This along with the cable was £20. OK - there may be free stuff that does exactly the same job, but Vince was happy to buy this and buy me a few beers for transferring his record collection to CD.

There are some useful things amongst the ****.

Our local supermarket has a bin provided specifically for disposing of them I guess it saves someone having to clear them all up later

Me too - I empty the contents of the mag into the recycling bin without looking at it.

Guess it must work, though...

Hello

Sorry, as above. I just open the magazine over a rubbish bin and shake out everything that is inside.

I then sit down and read the magazine.

Everything straight into the paper recycling bin for me too. Just like flippin' credit card statements these days - loans, house insurance, car insurance, crap gifts and the rest.

and do you carry out analysis so that you know where the leads are coming from?

I did a little work in the printing industry a few years ago and from memory putting them into mags cost only a few pound per thousand. Then you have to design and print them of course. I would imagine you have to get a few decent sales before they become viable?

Justification for a junk mail tax, perhaps?

I used to work for a firm distributing these things to the printers for insertion. We used to cover all sorts but the banks with loan inserts used to think it had been a cracking campaign if they got a 3% response. Less than 1% was closer to the norm. Some of the big players (back then anyway) would be putting out 100 million or more leaflets a month covering various brands and in to a wide range of end publications.

In short, even with the very low response rates, these companies do get considerably more back than it costs to do (and it isn't cheap to do it).
