Speeding
I recieved a NIP from Humberside police today for driving at the reckless speed of 79mph on the M180, a 3 lane motroway and very light traffic, I saw the officer on the bridge over the motorway and my indicated speed was 75 so I thought I was ok....wrong, must not have got his legover the night before or something.
Jeez, most cars on motorways do 80mph and police generally ignore this and chase the ones who are well over the limit.

But the limit is still 70mph...by your own admission you saw an officer and failed to bring your speed down to the limit. I appreciate what you are saying about generally getting ignored at that speed, you were unlucky, but it does happen and you'll have to pay up...bitch isn't it

A group of us passed a Talivan on there a few weeks back at 7.30am on a saturday It was a beautiful, dry sunny day and we were almost the only cars on the road so it was obviously all about safety Thankfully, when in convoy we (WYIOC) never speed, as the convoy leader would feel responsible, so the b@stard didn't get a penny from us We spent the rest of the day sideways at 100mph on a privately hired track And funnily enough, none of us died even though we were driving at over 30mph

Strange. An indicated speed (I'm assuming this was on the speedo here) is usually higher than actual speed as IIRC it's illegal to have a speedometer which under-reads. In mine (classic on 17s), a reading on the speedo of 75mph relates to an actual speed (according to GPS) of less than 70 (think it's 67-68).

Personally I would post on the www.pepipoo.com website and get some real advice. You can exercise your right to remain silent - There is a few things you can do but put a post on and see your options.

The dreaded humberside scammers. There are a number of members on pepipoo who have been allegedily caught doing 79mph. They are a miserable, lying bunch of scammers, topping up their revenue on one of the quietest motorways in the country. Fortunately, they use the ever so reliable LTI20-20 laser.
Join pepipoo or become a full member(help fund the cases going to ECHR) and read all about humberside and their behaviour.
Remember, If you fight back and it goes to court, the scammers dont get a penny of your money-if your unlucky and lose. Well worth fighting just for that point alone. You're unlikey to get any more points than 3, slightly higher fine, again IF you lose. A number of legal defence options open to you, so use your 28 days wisely to research, visit www.pepipoo.com

Made me wonder what all the fuss was about on the M4, Scumberside Scamera Partnership have been zapping on the M180 for two years or so now.
I'd pop over to pepipoo and take a look. At least one *very* interesting case is unfolding in Humberside atm. (you'll need to join)
Either that, or just pay up and get on with your life until the next NIP lands on the door mat.

Might be worth asking for the picture.
Strange as others say to get clocked at 79 when you had 75 indicated. Seems too close to the 10% + 2 guidlines from ACPO.
From what is said, maybe the Humberside scammers are being a bit too vigilant.

The *speed seminar* doesn't actually teach you anything you didn't know. But it was surprising how many people thought the NSL on a single carriageway road was 50! About half did.
The advantage is you don't get 3 points and that's the end to it. The disadvantage is that you know you've been sha%ted by the government. The way I loo at it I'm self employed so I can probably find ways to pay 65 squid less tax this year and sha&t them !!

Dave,
do you have to "pass" the speed seminar, or just attend it?
If the latter, it would be soooo tempting to be as patronising back at "the authorities" as they are to us in the first place (e.g. remind them why the NSL was implemented in the first place, and what a model-T Ford was )

You had *tests* such as watching a video from a car following another and had to press the mouse when you were a *safe* distance behind it. Even though I left 2+ seconds for everything the *results* always said I could have left more .....
And lots of talk about the number of people killed by speeding etc.
But go for it if you think it'll be less hassle.
Cheers

£50's damn good... in Lanca$hire, the anti speed propaganda day costs £90.
Dad's just signed up for one.
My thoughts are that if you've no other points, it's probably cheaper to pay the £60 and take the 3 points.
John.

Those courses are a godsend to the retired police officers who run them, you were lucky it only cost £50. Worth it not to get the points though. They have you over a barrel of course.
