Default Car buying question

Seen a car that I am keen to buy. It a private sale, and i ring up to check the details and arrange to view it on tuesday. Buyer informs me that the car is on a private plate that he will be keeping, so he will be changing this on Monday at the DVLA. Question is, if he goes to the DVLA to swap the plates over, will they keep the V5 and then send him an updated one with the change in registration showing meaning I wont be able to get the car until the updated V5 comes through the post?

cheers

Stu

yes thats true, they do send the docs off and then he will recieve the new ones, but. he can do a change of ownership at the same time, so the documents just come out to you, the plates can be changed back over at that point. as the original plate is usually issued back to the car. you have the green slip as normal.
