Default Gumball 3000

Just seen the start in London, some great cars, massive turnout of people watching all down pall mall !

Yellow Hummer, beast
Caprice in a black 911 turbo (both gorgeous)
F40, nice to see one of these
Silver Classic Scoob
3 new shape scoob's, nice paint scheme

First cars have just arrived in Calais

Anyone ever thought of competing at one point in their life ? It would be such an experience !!

Whilst I love the concept of the Gumball, it does worry me somewhat that a load of headcases in high peformance cars will be again tearing their way through Europe, having seen some footage from the last events I find it amazing what they get away with, good luck to them and it is a spectacle but I think they need to calm down a bit after some of the near fatalaties that occurred like the guys in the White Ferrari a couple of years ago, alright they accept the risks but its the people on the route that concern me. Motorsport should be conducted on a track.

It does sound like I am a killjoy but if there is a big accident in which people die occurs it spoils performance car motoring for us all as we will get legislated against.

I will however be keeping an eye on the website.

its not 10k mate, I have the application here, its £3k per person. you would make that in sponsors alone easily!!!

I want to do it, but I also want to win it when I do it, so I want to make sure im entering with the right car

If anyones interested, the Range Rover with the chevrolet engine has a tracking system so you can see exactly where they are and how fast they're going

thats fairly stupid on their part, not disimilar to when police charged the guy filming himself with a video camera, this is also conclusive proof of speeding at a particular point, at a particular place

well not really, because it doesnt have photographic evidence. They could easily say its just "pretend" speed and has been made up.

Anyway the police didnt seem too bothered in pall mall as the ferraris did the odd burn-out and nailed it down the street

Went to watch them set off from London this afternoon, some well cool motors up there, (all driven by a bunch of planks tho). The 3 Bugeyes looked cool, even if their paint jobs were a bit loud... also spotted a Silver Classic with Belguim plates on it taking part.

Did get some pics, but lots of crowds so not many good ones, i'll see if i can post some on here tomorrow...

Nice to see Caprice in the flesh as well....

Gazza...

That £10k though must be including fuel and all running costs then. It must cost a small fortune in petrol alone.

I looked into doing it this year as was going to be made redundant in January, I would have got a reasonable payoff. Sadly it didn't happen (being made redundant) so I had to can that idea. It's £10k per team of 2, and that covers entry fee, ferries, hotels, parties etc. You still need to pay your own fines, fuel , food etc. I think it's cheaper (£6k per team) if you've done it previously.

That rangie is currently doing 0mph sitting at the Czech border!

ok so we've come to the conclusion that a team of say 3 would split the 10k, thus costing just over 3 grand each. That splits the driving nicely too, and if you can get sponsorship your onto a winner.

Then of course if you win the race your sorted

10k for two people, any extra drivers/passengers is 5k a head.

If you've done it before it's 8k a team.

Reading through the terms and conditions youd have ot not be worried about losing the lot, loads of references to " we can cancel your entry/do what we like and not refund you the money".

Plus they reckon they had 5000 people try to enter this year and they picked the 100 they wanted, so not sure how easy it is to get in

yep i noticed a fair few references to the 'we dont offer refunds', 'we can cancel your application and not offer your money back'.

theres also the cannonball run, which is about 3grand each across europe, altho theyre doing one across the US in 2007 thats 10grand to enter.

I am sooo gutted as my work have unofficially supplied a car for this event.

I was on a course when the details were being finalised for this and the people that have the said vehicle wanted a mechcanic to follow behind in another car which we are also supplying.

No one told me until wednesday of this week so I missed out big time.

Would have had to take the time out of my own holiday allowance and would not be paid for any overtime that would undoubtedly crop up but what a once in a lifetime chance.

Especially as the other four techs at work all said no we dont fancy that .

So gutted

Steve

How is the Lexus SC doing
