Pontefract Racecourse
The travellers have moved in this week! That's going to go down well.
There's a park area adjacent to the track and there's been an ingression of caravans and mobile homes this week. Coming past the track on my way home tonight I counted 17 domeciles, each with sky dish and washing line
The locals are going to be up in arms. I predict a riot if they're not gone by the next race meet in a few days. The races are a very social occasion in the town with a huge percentage of the populace turning out for it.
I assume the area they're on is common land so can the council/race organisers actually do anything about them?

Not sure of the status of the land Bubba but the burning question I have is how come the travellers can afford state of the art vans, new cars (big ones at that) and petrol! Not to mention sky tv..
I don't think I could afford that lot on £45p/w dole

I am not saying it should be done, but ......
I am truly amazed at how accomodating the locals are when these people move in - the locals generally outnumber them by at least 100:1 ..... quite why they are not physically driven away is confusing???

As I was crawling past in the traffic this evening I picked out a lot of vantage points from which flaming arrows could be unleashed... lol.. Well it passed the time

I don't think being a traveller precludes them from being business people in their own way. To be fair, I've no idea how they come by their money. When a few moved in near us at Christmas they were moved on almost instantaneously, but for the day or two they were around their kids caused damage and nuisance to nearly everyone on our street.

Not sure if you're just trying to be inflammatory Pete but I'm sure you'd have more to worry about if we did behave in the way you're describing.

"If the travellers are giving you and your neighbours grief, stealing stuff, pestering you for tarmacing/tree cutting, being noisy, ruining the education of your child by joining the small school, leaving rubbish all over the site ..... why, oh why, have the community not driven them out?"
I really don't think I could just sit there and allow someone destroy my peaceful life, I would HAVE to get some lads together and sort it out (no violence necessarily, just give them 12 hours to foook off?)

Expect a knock at the door..
D'ya want yer drive tarmaccin'
Or how about some lovely upvc claddin'
Always makes me laugh how they must be taken through a justice system which they contribute nothing to. If they don't live by the law then how can they expect it to be on their side.
Can't do with them me.
Filled up at Shell in Cas the other night, and a couple of scratter birds tried to tap me for a couple of quid to see their dying grandma in hospital. Cavalier not taxed, all smashed front, clearly not road worthy. Tapped up some mug & put £2 in, then drove straight out into the traffic with seemingly no apparent ability to control a car.
Excuse me if I am stereotyping here, but whats betting they weren't insured too.
Expect a pile of tarmac and UPVC off cuts at Ponte Racecourse when they do finally go.

I was in a petrol station last summer, filling up with SUL - a van next to me with the diesel hose going into the back of the open rear doors of the van!!
It all happened very fast, a pikey jumped out the back and threw the hose on the floor, shouted something to the driver and off they screamed into the traffic .... I could see a couple of oil drums in the back!!
Won't be long before you need to put your credit card in the pump ....

I wonder if it is the same travellers as reported in the Cas and Ponte Express recently, firstly at the football ground in Ponte and then in the overspill carpark of Xscape.

They're holding up the building of an office complex near Xscape by pitching up on the building site. It's amazing what they can get away with.
Allegedly a couple of years back they had to blockade the old pit entrances with slag heaps (slag-a-plenty in ponte) to make them stay out but this was all before my time so I can't verify.

Spotted 'em yesterday, then again today with the wiffy in the car. She seemed to think that they could be somthing to do with the circus that's there at the mo, but I reckon they're just using that as cover. (Why is there no smiley for sarcasm? )
BTW Bubba, int it Ponty & Cas?
