"Pre-loved"
Has anyone else come across this term for a second hand car? Why do people have to invent these terms? Ooh, me pods!
Another recent one came to me on a Council letter outlining proposals for "traffic-calming" measures near my house. Part of the proposals includes several pairs of "road cushions". I mean, WHAT? Gert piles of tarmac in the road impeding my progress, shaking out my aging teeth and ******* up my suspension are CUSHIONS are they? A benign, fluffy addition to my tortured journey to w**k? That's all right then.
This is the kind of emasculation of language that gives us "Ethnic Cleansing" instead of Genocide.
Any more examples?

Pre-loved, is that a new term for foreplay?
Pre-owned is sometimes used for secondhand.
'heck Bubba you are sounding old.
Remember language does change, you may not like, I may not like it, but if it didn't I'd be saying "Verily Master po, t'is a fine pair of hose you have".
<raises hat in greeting>

Anyway "previously enjoyed", meaning one of Tel's lady "friends"?

I get fed up of these poncy ways of putting things instead of just using plain English. yes of course new expressions come into being but something like that is truly awful and toe curling!. like using the word "proven" which is an old Scottish legal expression instead of "proved".
I think it is worth preserving the language instead of resorting to these "clever" expressions which individuals try to think up to impress us all.
That example of Old English you gave Vegescoob at least demonstrated the art of good manners which is also disappearing quickly.

The new verb "Fragrance"
Fragranced
Fragrancing.
We already have Scented and Perfumed. Which **** decided we needed Fragranced?
<<Bites table top>>
The word fragrance only exists as a noun.
Fragranced doesn't exist AT ALL!!

The use of euphemisms, particularly when trying to dispose of tat that a charity shop would set fire to, is not uncommon. You just have to be able to read between the lines.
For example, the above reference to second hand furniture as being 'previously enjoyed' simply means there's a big jizz stain behind the middle cushion that couldn't be removed with a stain devil.
'Pre-loved' when referring to a second hand car is meant to imply that that the previous owner cared for and maintained the vehicle in diligent fashion wheras in reality it probably had about 1 oil change in 5 years and was subjected to several assaults with a supermarket trolley.
