My brother has just had it done at the london eye clinic, his prescription was -11 in both eyes with an astigmatism. He went to boots who said they would not be able to do it bacause of the severity of his short-sightedness coupled with the astigmatism. So then he went to the london eye clinic. He was told he could have Lasik treatment, but it would have to be in 2 stages. One stage to take him down to -1, and then again in 6 months for perfect vision. He went in 4 weeks ago to have the first procedure and it went exact to plan. He said his vision was a little hazy at night for a few days, but that has now cleared and with a pair of prescription glasses(to his new -1 prescription) he says he is able to see better than he could before, even with corrective measures. Professor Dan Z Reinstein, at the eye clinic is supposed to be a world leader in the field, and with your eyes you can never be too carefull. On the basis of my brothers experience i would recommend him. He doesnt come cheap (6 grand for both eyes) but with your eyes you really want the best treatment possible. I'm not saying boots are bad, just that Reinstein is very good.
He has a website here:

Just though I'd let you know that this treatment will stop you getting into the Armed Forces and Emergency Services. It also reduces your night vision and you will have to get the treatment done again in about 10 years as it 'wears off'.

My wife had this done a little while ago. She experienced a little discomfort for a few days... day one and two were more or less rightoffs. She just had to rest and close her eyes. She had ultralasek at ultralase. She now has better that 2020 vision. I think she was -2.75 in both eyes with astigmatism too. Ultralasek is the most expensive treatment they do at approx 2800 for both eyes I think, but among other things the night vision problems (halos and starburst) are meant to be reduced.
She is really really happy with the results

There have been two other treads on this forum about this in the past. Have a quick search. There are some good posts there that helped my wife decide whether she was going to take the plunge.

Has ray_li got two logins?

Do a search, this has been asked a number of times. Try "eye" in the titles, or maybe Lasik in all text, in NSR.
