Pain killers are a rather personal thing, what works for one, won't work for another. Best person to ask in the absence of a doctor / dentist is the pharmacist themself, they will be happy to advise you.

Clove oil (found in a gel) rubbed on the gums works well.

Nurofen plus (Ibuprofen + codeine) or Co-codamol/paracetemol and codeine are the strongest over-the-counter ones I think.

Ibuprofen is anti-inflammatory and is supposed to work better for teeth for that reason... I've always found 'fen plus to be effective.

Paracetemol would be my choice. If it's an abcess then you may need some antibiotics - can you get some from your Doctor?

Single Malt to get you through the night.

Bonjella (sp?) can help if rubbed around the area.

Hello

Can you buy that? My wife has to get it prescribed by the Doctor?

Thanks,

Steve

Paracetamol every four hours and nurofen plus every other four (2 hr between meds) works very well. Don't od on para's or ibuprofen or codeine that way. That was advice from pharmacist when I last had toothache. I also tried Clove oil and while it worked for about 30mins I was more distracted by the 2hrs of vomiting that accompanied it. Apparently it's very toxic and even the tiniest drop down your throat can induce vomiting.

Default Nurofen Liquid Capsules

These Capsules seem to be very good at the moment over the counter.

My pharmacist friend told me that legally they can only say you can take 2 at once which is 400mg of Ibuprofen, but he said that you can take up to 4 tablets at once only twice a day, and that works a treat, and at the moment i am feeling more of an ache than a pain....

They are the little red liquid tabs, got my vote.

The one and only time I took that (after a rather nasty wasp sting as a child) I was wiped out for the rest of the day - maybe that's the plan

When I had my gum absess problems a few years back I used to put a soluble aspirin directly onto the gum and just let it sink in. Seemed to work for me

As for pain killers, i like those Anadin Ibuprofen green capsule things - they are very good for killing pain.

Got some of that at work.
To dispense it, it takes 2 nurses and each amount is recorded and counter signed in the controlled drugs book and kardex. The amount has to drawn up with a syringe to be perfectly accurate.
When you get it off your Pharmacist you whack it in a spoon and help yourself

Anyway remember the maximum amount of paracetamol per day is 4 grams.
Cocodamol consists of 8mg Codeine and 500mg Paracetamol.
Take 2 of these with 400mg of Ibuprofen should help numb the pain

Ibuprofen is classed as a none steroidal anti-inflammatory(NSAID)
If you've a dodgy stomach be careful as they can be play havoc with it.

Dalwhinnie, Glenkinchie, Cragganmore, Talisker, Oban, or Lagavulin taken repeatedly in large doses is guaranteed to work. Once you've finished the bottle, ask a chav to Happy Slap you and you're sorted

Feel for your pain but a good malt will soon have you feeling better.

There's nothing worse, I had a double absess last year on two teeth for 4 days whilst my 'dentist' prescribed 25mg of antibiotics, I honestly felt like suicide at one stage.

Solpadeine Plus worked for short 30 min periods, but it quickly came back.

You have my sympathy.

Oil of Cloves is very effective and fast, you can apply it with a cotton bud or similar. The taste is pretty awful if you miss with the application.

It is easily available from a chemist.
