Tripod mounted mini-GATSO in Swindon
I was driving down Gypsy Lane in Swindon today past the BMW/Mini pressings plant and my new Vector 995 (2 weeks old) started going ape$hit. I could see a fluorescent blob at the other end of the road near a bus stop, I was only doing 30mph anyway so carried on down the road as normal.
At the far end was a bike copper with a mini-GATSO on a tripod, first one I've ever seen in use. Glad I spent out on the radar detector now, a B2 or RA2 wouldn't have picked it up.
Fair enough using these round towns, but I don't much like the idea of coming across one on my backlane hooning grounds - wouldn't take much to hide one behind a bush etc.

This wasn't a fixed GATSO, it was a portable mini-GATSO (just the radar bit - no camera) on a small tripod. Looked like the whole thing packed down into a pannier on the police bike. There were no graduated markings on the road, so i guess the copper was pulling offenders over.
It was emitting X-band radar, a GPS/Laser speedtrap detector won't pick these up.
