Most laptops etc have power supplies with a universal input - check the label, they're typically OK on 90 to 264V. It's cheaper and easier for manufacturers to use a universal PSU worldwide than it is to make separate, country specific adapters. Only the plug tends to vary, so you'll need a travel adapter.

Further to AndyC's comments, check the adapter, if the label on it says something along the lines of the text below, you'll be fine with a travel plug adapter:

Input:
AC 100 - 240V
50-60Hz 93-101VA

If not, your Pentium IV 3.2 Ghz is going to run like a 486 SX 33

As said by others, most adaptors should be switchable, usually automatically. We've got various macs here, Laptops and Desktops.

All we needed for the laptops was a UK to USA plug adaptor, for the desktops, they have a switch which we simply flicked from 240v to 110v, job done.

The hairdryer will be pretty useless, as power = (V^2)/R, with half voltage, you will get 1/4 the power.....! I guess the same could be said for the hair tongs!!

When i went a few years back, i seem to remember of having 2 weeks of moaning from the misses (about the hairdryer, to be clear......)!!
