Default Health issue - Gallstones

Ok i've been told by the quack that i have gallstones (at ******* 32) due to my high fat diet (although i eat **** only at weekends) now i've been for a blood test today and the only medication i've got is painkillers. i am eating like a saint at the moment i.e. grilled skinless turkey steamed veg etc. but even eating that i was keeled over in agony today. I've heard that they can remove the gall bladder but i'm not too hot on this as it can cause any other complications.

Has anyone else had this condition and what was the outcome!

Thanks guys!

Hubby had this trouble last year, he's 37.
Had a Indian curry for tea, woke up in the night with really bad pain, I ended up phoning the NHS direct and they sent an ambulance (I was shocked) took him in and put him on mophine. Sent home at 6 am pain all gone.

1 month later same thing happened again (2 days before he was due to have a scan to see if he had gallstones), taken in by ambulance again (the ambulance crew said that hopefully this would hurry things along if he needed an operation) and this time they kept him in cause the pain wouldn't stop. They put him on a ward, took him for a scan and confirmed gallstones, luckily they kept him in and did emergency operation through keyhole surgery and removed the gall bladder cause the stones were too big and worn a hole in the bladder.

Recovered quite quickly, although now he suffers very badly from indigestion, he eats those rennie tablets like they are sweets, never suffered from it before.

Hope this helps

Yep if you've got them a spicy meal can trigger a painful attack.
Happened to my dad last year.

Simple keyhole surgery job and whipped his gall bladder out no problems ever since.
In some cases they can blast them with ultrasonics to break them up.

Sister had them 2 years back, when she was 25. It was a nightmare and she lost 5 stone in weight (which she was happy about - shes now skinny, but i aint )

She had keyhole surgery for removal, few days in hospital then take it easy eating/drinking for a bit.

See - http://hcd2.bupa.co.uk/fact_sheets/html/gallstones.html

Not that I'm endorsing private healthcare...

It doesn't really promote ERCP as a treatment, but that can be very effective and is far less risky than lap chole

My sister has the same problem with one large stone. She is waiting for the op to remove it.

She is being very careful with her diet and the pain is being kept at bay.
