Workshirt Recommendations
Can anyone recommend anywhere to get some high quality formal work shirts which don't cost an arm and a leg (ideally less than £50 each). I like Thomas Pink shirts, but they have really started taking the **** with their prices now (they're £70+ each) and I just refuse to pay that much - feel like I'm being robbed. Bought a couple of M&S shirts recently but they just fell apart within a couple of months.
Cheers,
Gary.

I've got a few of these, round about 35 each.

Seem ok for me and have a three month guarantee (but I know one guy who wears out the elbows on his desk but I think it's how he works rather than the shirts.)
Oh and they're a right bugger to iron.
And mine don't have pockets.
Jeez, I've just realised that they're crap!!!
Scratch the recommendation, stick to Debenhams, they only need ironed once every few months if you hang them up out the machine and are 13 quid each

I have a few expensive shirts but never wear them as they are a bitch to iron. Charles Twyritt or something like that. Not one person said "oooh nice shirt anyway"
Quite happy to stick to M&S, Next and Debenhams etc. Would rather spend they money I spend driving my car or going away.
In fact I should sell my Sea Island shirt on ebay - fukcing thing looks like a chamois leather when I get it out the washing machine.

Katharine Hamnett shirts look smart and they arent too expensive. Im not sure how well they iron though as Ive been getting five washed and ironed for £5 at my local Safeway....
Dolce & Gabbana shirts iron easily and look smart too but Ive not worn them much so I dont know if theyll last.

Don't buy TM Lewin
They don't iron well and have a strange cut to them which means they untuck at the sides.........all the time !
If you wear them for work they never last anyway, I've got some cheapo next shirts which are fine.

Gary - I think you can forget the D&G, Armani, YSL, etc. "designer" brands - as they will 9 times out of 10 still be pretty crap quality compared with the likes of Thomas Pink shirts. However, I tend to agree that TP shirts can be expensive (the Outlet store at Swindon is good!)
I've found that Charles Tyrwhitt shirts are a similar quality, 25% off on the web-site and and if you register for a catalogue on there you often get sent 50% discount fliers. They also have a sale section on the web-site with some VERY cost-effective shirts (and ties, cufflinks). I've just bought a couple of sale shirts tonight - 40 quid for two, which can't be sniffed at (list price is 62 per shirt I think)...
They will also let you return any shirt within 3 months - worn or unworn, washed or unwashed, if you're not happy with it for any reason - for a full refund. Can't get much better than that!

Thanks for all the replies, especially Shades for the link...the Charles Tyrwhitt shirts look like just the sort of thing I'm after. I'll give a couple a try.

I also wear Lewin's shirts - bitch to iron (need to be damp) but they do last well. The quality isn't quite as good as Thomas Pink, but better than New & Lingwood (material is a bit thin). One of the best shirts I had was from Ede and Ravenscroft.
I've recently bought a couple of Stephens Brothers shirts too, and these iron a lot easier without sacrificing quality.
M&S, John Lewis etc are rubbish in comparison to a proper shirtmaker's shirt.

all mine are from CT as above. they are expensive but now they make all other 20-30 quid shirts feel so cheap and nasty, like wearing cardboard. but then again you are paying 70-80+ for one.
