OK, the Brummie accent makes me smile, (I lived there for 3 years at uni), and I hate the cockney whine, but WHY do we?
It's reflected on TV progs: Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle/North East, Scotland, Ireland, even Nothern Ireland = OK.
Brummie, East Mids, Yorkshire, Norfolk, Lincolnshire etc = no no

I'm in a no win situation.... Born in Cheshire, brought up until 24yrs old in Stockport with that accent, then lived in and around Watford for 26years, so the accent softened ( purely by association and not really consciously). Now I live in Lincs, but for years was "accused" of talking "Posh" by the northeners, AND had the mickey taken by the southerners for the northern accent, at least now, I feel I'm in more of a local place re accents. No one so far has made any jibes.

I am quite lucky that i don't have to much of a brummie accent, a few of my mates have real strong accents and it makes me laugh at times !!I find that localy the black country / wolverhampton accent is worse by a long shot!! Somone with a strong black country accent talks in a foreign accent
I would say nationaly the Scouse accent is the worst !!
