Rover has spent the last 10 Billion of our money on a new Emblem

'I thought the new emblem was of a pile of human excrement, as it sums up the quality of the product they (used) to supply.'
Perhaps it is time Rover went, but I think a little sensitivity to the thousands loosing their livelhoods may be in order ?, It would have been nice if they could have made a comparable product to the german manufacturers, a company cannot exist on might have beens but whilst you may be smug about it (well done) , Rover (however crap they may have/have not been) were part of our manufacturing base that isnt there any more along with the jobs.
Its no like all those guys can go and even work in callcentres any more as they are all now in India.
Do you even get the feeling we are paying for the Seventies Millitancy and complacency, Whilst the Germans and Japanese quietly got on with developing good products all our lot were out on strike ?

It's just a pity that the rest of the range was poor.
Feel sorry for the 40000+ people who look like loosing their jobs.

The story of Rover's collapse is the same as that of our entire manufacturing industry's collapse.
1/ If the employees and their predecessors had put more effort into building decent cars, and less effort into screwing the management for everything they could get, the factories would still be building decent cars, and customers would be buying them.
2/ If the management and their predecessors had put more effort into designing decent cars, and less effort into screwing the workforce, whilst lining their own pockets as best they could, the factories would still be building decent cars, and customers would still be buying them.
3/ If the accountants had been kept in their place, and not allowed to dictate the price that the cars had to be built down to, the factories would still be building decent cars, and customers would still be buying them.
4/ If successive governments had kept their noses out of an industry they patently knew **** all about, and left it to people who did, the factories would still be building decent cars, and customers would still be buying them.
FWIW, currently every indication is that Rover are not alone, after failing ot take note of points 2 & 3 Mercedes Benz will very soon be following Rover down this very same route

Yes but the British Public would still mostly sell their souls for a motorised turd (ML 320 ?) if it had a Merc Badge on, they cotton on pretty slowly, and to be honest though the quality of Mercs has dropped quite a bit they are still better made than most, I think most of the problem is the demand for electronic gizmos, these then go wrong. Things that do amaze me are things like seeing an 18 month old C class with the wheels corroded to f*ck, now thats unforgivable when you see an 18 year old E class on pristine and original alloys.
Somebody must like Rovers, a lad is driving from Scotland to Cheshire to collect my poorly BRM, despite the engine being fooked, a very characterful and enjoyable motor, pity Head Gaskets were a consumable.

The British public have noticed, Mercedes are rated as below average in the latest JD Power survey published yesterday. Top 3 in order were Lexus, Skoda and Honda

CrisPDuk: Agree wholeheartedly, but you forgot one, and it's one that has fekked more British companies than the motor trade:
If management and designers had designed stuff the public wanted, rather than trying to TELL the public what it ought to be buying, the workers would still be making cars today and the public would still be buying them
For cars, you can substitute, Hi-Fi's, TV's, cameras, washing machines, fridges etc etc etc
