Red light camera

Red light camera
Totally my fault, I misjudged where the white line was on a junction I was not familiar with and consequently got flashed. As I was trying to pass through on yellow I was also accelerating. Not very clever. What are the chances that I will get an NIP for the 2 offences of jumping a red light and speeding? Therefore 6 points?
Anyone got any experince of this?

They also log your speed. At least the one that got me did ... I wrote to them saying I was braking and just over the line (you could see my brake lights on in the photo) and they replied saying I was doing x mph when I crossed the line.
BUT I cannot remember the incident at all. I mean, if you go through a bit close on a red you usually remember it. 'That was a bit close like ....'. Maybe the memory is going with age .... :-)

get photo evidence
Depending on the image:
"there was a car very close behind me I felt that if I breaked to stop for the lights he would run into me due to his close proximity & speed"
AFAIK that's the only reason you can run a light

You CAN NOT legally run a red light under any circumstances and there is no defence unless you are driving an emergency vehicle responding to a call.
I know of one chap who crossed the line slightly, to get on the footpath, to let an ambulance past. The photo showed that his speed across the line was less than walking pace and he was clearly pulling out of the way rather than progressing. He was successfully prosecuted for the offence.

If something with blue's and two's is behind, I think you might manage to run a red light then as well - I know I would to get out of the way.
Although heat of the moment stuff, it's worth trying to remember to note the registration of the vehicle(s), dates and times if you do.

If you are public spirited and do get out of the way then you will have 3 points and a fine to pay.

Legally you can't go through the red light if ambulance/police are coming up behind you. Legally you must go through the red light else you are obstructing a police officer/ambulance people in their duties.
Hmm, if someone died because the ambulance was held up, could you be prosectuted for that too?

Yep, it's true - i know somebody to whom this happened. Madness, but as ever, an opportunity to raise cash that most councils won't refuse.
<Edit - in answer to hedgehog's post, i don't know the answer to Dracoro's question>
