Chilli v The Missus

Chilli v The Missus
Every time I cook I get in trouble for introducing additional 'spice' into whatever I cook, i.e. we get a bland chilli mix, I put a tiny pinch of Chilli powder in to make it edible and she sits there sweating, coughing and complaining, sometimes even if I dont bother for a quiet life I get accused of putting contraband into the mix !
How do your partners react to hot and spicy food, I personally cant taste what she objects to ?
Tonights Chilli has been split, mine has 1 large red chilli in it plus a slug of Walkerswood Scotch Bonnet sauce, even so its not that evil but she will assume hers has been adultered in some way.

My missus does this regularly eg. Spag Bol - she cooks it, its like chewing polystyrene beads. I cook it and add a few extra ingredients to give it some taste and she insists its too spicy/ garlicky?/ sweet / peppery etc... you name it she will moan about it!!
Same applies to curries, chillis, chinese , mexican blah blah...

mine likes it milder than me - is that just a woman thing?
try adding some brown sugar (1tsp) to the oil before you sweat the onions down and add 1 tsp of paprika with your normal pinch of chilli powder. makes for a smoother flavour without being a slappable offence. but obviously keep schtum.
alternatively make two versions his n' hers: just split the sauce and add what u want to yours in the last 10 mins. 50:50 cayenne/chilli powder is good.
or on the other hand, try cooking for a career vegetarian - i often end up cooking two meals if i'm feeling the need for meat. quorn mince just don't cut the mustard.

I got in trouble for cutting a Pork Pie with the knife I had used to spread Chilli Sauce with, she started going red and yakking, must have been parts per million of chilli on that knife, thinking about it, that would be a way of raising the activity level of most ladies, chilli on their sanitary apparatus......

Luckily my girlfriend loves spicy food, so we don't fall out about it. I tend to go for the fresh chilli's rather than the chilli sauces. The hottest chilli I even tasted was a naga chilli a few years ago. At the time I was eating chilli chicken dishes regularly and could even take a few mouthfuls of a farl without dying. However a 0.5 mm cube of a naga just about blew my head off.
I never really knew where naga's ranked in the overall scheme of hot chilli's, compared to habenero's or Scotch Bonnets until I did a search today:-

Now I know

She wants to be thankful you can cook, my hubby can't even fry an egg. What bliss it would be for him to be able to cook me a meal

My missus was none too keen on chilli in the early days, especially when I made the hot ones which are my favourite. But when I made Jamie O's recipe with all the fresh spices she just loved it. She loves loads of garlic and herbs which is great for me as I hate bland food which I grew up on. Mum putting an OXO cube in the spag bol was living dangerously when I were a nipper.

I have the opposite problem - I'm a girl and my gorgeous hubby is an utter wimp in the chilli stakes!
Luckily I work away from home 1 night or more a week so always eat the spicey stuff then. At home I keep a jar of Jalepenos and some Fire Eaters spice mix in the cupboard for popping on top of my dins. When he dares to go out for an evening he tells me it's like returning to the set of Men Behaving Badly - there I am, pished, surrounded by curry boxes and watching Die Hard (shouting out all the best bits obviously!).
