£50/mo, but i do realise that's super-cheap. I'd never be able to afford to run nice cars else

So in 23 years it's only gone up £2.50? To a wage earner? Are your parents mad?

Well, mom says she likes having me at home (Brother moved abroad). She actually tried to charge me £100/mo but at that time i couldnt afford it as i was on a lower wage. Now i am on a higher wage my toys are bigger so i still dont have any more cash.

They have too much money anyway, my dad upgrades his pc every couple of weeks and is always buying games. Mom is always redecorating different rooms in the house.

I always paid 15% of my monthly take-home. . . seemed fair enough.

When I was saving for my mortage, they dropped it for a fixed time period.

I used to pay £200pm, and that was when I was only taking home £600 per month when I was 16 (6 years ago). I decided that I should pay rent, and I decided the amount. My parents wanted to say no but could not afford to (I like my food)

Any less would have been pointless in my oponion. Why pay £50, does it prep you for real life? Does it hell!!

I must add, its was a good idea to start paying realistic money as soon as possible, now I pay the Halifax alot more

Darren

I only pay nowt because parents dont need the money. I only eat a bit of food here n there and use up a bed. If i dont pay anything its an opportunity to save for something important like a mortgage !

I know a few parents that charge a couple of hundred - but then save that "on behalf" of their kids.

Frankly if you need your parents to impose an artificial saving scheme you shouldnt be allowed out.

Age 16 - 17: £200 out of £400 total earnings.

Age 17 onwards: £215 out of an average £900 total earnings.

{Per month I should add }

my mate pays about that much, thing is you cant actually be using that much money up in food + electricity can you ? it'd be better to pay it but have it go into savings or something that ur parents can take out what they actually need and leave the rest
