People and Wildlife of London Beware!
I said it wouldn't happen. I swore blind that I'd never allow it. But it has. It has finally happened.
Yes, the wife has convinced me to get her a cat. At least it should sort out our on-going mouse problem.
We haven't actually aquired on yet, but it's only a matter of time. I like the look of one of these boys:

my bro's got a crazy, crazy cat. acts like it's a dog, chases ***** and brings them back, rips food bags open, always up for a stroke which quickly turns into a fight.
Here's a couple of it, enjoying it's easter egg in the first one....

If you want a "fun" cat get yourself a bog-standard black and white British shorthaired moggy. We have one and he's a nutter, not aloof like a lot of cats can be. He always wants attention and loves being picked up and played with and the occasional pretend fight. A few mates with the same breed say the same, whereas mates with "proper" breeds of cat are always whinging how miserable they are.

I've got 3 British shorthairs (1 black male, 1 black tabby, 1 female tabby) and all are affectionate and lively. Still acting like kittens (without the shedding furniture / climbing curtains) even now at nearly 9.
Then there's the 7 year old ploompfy Maine Coon that we have....she's just petrified of everything, but loves being cuddled.

If you want a menatalist cat get a part ferral. My wifes cat in her youth was a ferral cross and its a total lunatic. Was last seen last weekend killing a mole and eating its head.....

That's not unusual behaviour for a cat.....
Mine used to catch a lot of rabbits as they lived on a farm and if they were hungry, the whole lot would go. If they were peckish, they would just eat the head as it contains the brains. We did ask at the vets about this and it's natural cat behaviour.

I have three cats, certainly recommend a moggy as they are less hassle. Things to think about are :
Neutered. Get them done. Females will put scent everywhere and continually rub the carpet. Males will be aggressive and go out for days on end.
Once done both sexes are very loving but the female is more of an indoor cat and claws every piece of wood to bits and only goes as far as our fences. One male spends half the day sleeping and the other half eating/playing in the garden. As for the other male he is half moggy and half siamese (however its spelt) and is a total loony cat that is constantly attacking the local dogs to the point they run from him His only problem is the whining noise that doesn't stop once he gets going.
