Resident Speed Gun Volunteers Wanted
A parish councillor in Cowfold, West Sussex wants to start a Community Speed watch Initiative which allows trained volunteer residents to record speeding motorists with laser guns, according to the West Sussex County Times.
Sandra Abbey referred to the success of a similar scheme in Ringmer and suggested the village should take up the opportunity. Council chairman Vic Almond said a minimum of six volunteers are needed.
Anyone who would like to get involved with the scheme can contact Sandra on
01403 864322.
Now don't you all go upsetting the nice lady!

Good on her I say - risky coz they'll always be some backward spanner who gets physical and gives the do gooder a hefty thrashing because the countries turned to sh1te and folk dont respect the law anymore - but trying to get speeders to abide by the law in villages like that is a worthy effort - although more police to tackle it would be preferable and lengthy custodials for anyone breaking the limit by moer than 10%... Sorted...

There were a couple of women with a speed camera in a small village on a recent run to Wales. Saw me a grinned as I looked like another for their list of speeders, but they were badly disappointed as I respect the speed limits.
So what happens if they put me in their book? Ticket? Warning? What happens if they see me and think - we'll have him anyway with his big wings and go faster stripes!

I agree, I think it is a great idea as there are a whole pile of people around here that I don't like. There are a whole range of ethnic minorities for example, we should set up a group to deal with them. I also dislike people who tow caravans at 3 mph on small roads so we will have a group to sort them out.
In truth some of these groups already exist, in my street there were 7 knee cappings in a week recently, and they do a great job maintaining law and order in a transparent and democratic way with no element of personal bias.
In this day and age I guess you will have to sign up to the party line before you can become a member of a direct action group but I am sure that is reasonable as well.

Personally I dont have a problem with this; are where you SHOULD keep to 30 or less.
However this is the thin end of the wedge and part of the 'speed only' approach to road safety and contro; of bad/uninsured/drunk driving which does us all such a disservice.

It will end up with no traffic cops and traffic wardens with laser guns on every corner with Blackberrys to mail you instant tickets. No doubt that to see the evidence proper you will have to put cart before horse and plead not guilty first.
Thin end of the wedge and it needs nailing...

If it is a small village and the locals find that people deliberately drive over the speed limit then I can't say I blame them.
One of the best ways to slow people down is one of those radar operated signs that flash your speed up for all to see.
I certainly do not agree with "terrorising" people in villages by driving too fast.

It's another step toward a socialist superstate and a 'curtain twitchers' charter.
Encouraging good 'party members' to inform on others by providing them with some electronic snooping device to legitimise it. Pretty soon nobody will trust anybody as the climate of control through covert survailance increases.
