Taxing a car
Just bought a car, pick it up Thursday and it will need taxing, it comes with a fresh MOT and I will request an new cover not early next week (Tesco are very quick with docs) so thats no problem, was just wondering if I need the logbook to tax it, normally you get the renewal form but I wont have one, I hope that I dont have to get the logbook as that can take weeks, surely they dont expect you to buy a car and not drive it while the DVLA **** about ?
The dealer did not want to tax it even if I pay for it, muttered about parking tickets but I wasnt asking him to register it in his name, couldnt be bothered to pursue the issue !

You only need insurance and MOT certificate anyway when you go and tax a car I thought!
There is a form from the post office which you can use instead of the one they send through too. I didn't think you needed the log book for this either.
HTH
I may be wrong though - I'm sure someone will tell me.

its all changed not so long ago.
You now need either the tax renewal reminder letter, the logbook, or the green "new keeper" section of the logbook iiirc, as well as the MOT and insurance.
