Fixed Penalty Notice
I got a £30 fixed penalty notice last night on the M25 for illegal spacing on the number plate.
I wouldn't have minded, but it was my wife's car

I'll be recommending that she does change them now!
Incidentally, I did learn something new from him. After being reported 3 times, you lose your plate (which I knew) - it then get's replaced with Q plate (which I didn't know).

Half an hour maybe on a crime with no victim, no cost (unless his plate can't be read by ANPR, then it will be checked manually and he'd still get done) and no detriment to society.
Everyday we all see & hear of serious crime happening right under our noses, and every day we hear tales like this. It doesn't take a genious to work out why scum walk free from prosecution whilst decent folk get pounced on for trivial nonsense. The more able you are to pay, the more you will be hunted for anything they can throw at you Penniless scum can do as they wish, 'cos catching them is pointless

That's a different point, but i do not think the Police should turn a blind eye to illegal spacing. Not just from the legality/car crime evasion point of view, but to save the drivers of such vehicles making themselves look utter pikeys. If you can't afford a decent individualised number plate, don't bother, or else paint your car Burberry pattern to match.

No, i'd have mentioned him specifically if i'd meant to do that, by definition.
Police time shouldn't be wasted by people flouting what are very clear number plate laws. I'd say £30 was a let-off.

for the ppl that say "let him off".....
do you think there should be no law on number plates?
lets assume you do think there should be a law...
should it be unenforced?
if so, why?

That may or may not be the case, suprabeast; i don't know if the Police have "targets", but it's an utterly avoidable crime which wastes Police time, with which they could be doing other things. Triple the fine.

thing is, any other organisation will always rate the seriousness of a situation and act accordingly... for example mr plod has a burglary, and a drunk driver to take care of. But he rates his time to give out a 30 pound ticket for a "crime" as you put it. except having wrong spacing on a number plate isn't really a crime... its wrong and its against the rules but it aint underground arms dealings or terrorism.

yeah...because im sure he ignored calls to a more serious crime while this was going on...i expect there were a couple of shootings, 4 rapes and a bank hold up...but he put those on hold while he gave muppet plate a ticket...evil pig.

sarcasm is the lowest form of wit... everyone knows that.
point is still the fact that his time was wasted on something that could have been more productive... and if there was nothing more productive for him to do then clearly we have too many policemen in this country.

It is in theory possible for them to do so sure, so every traffic cop spouts that bit of info as a 'warning'.
It has to be reported accompanied with photographic evidence on three seperate ocassions, but then it would actually have to get to court..........
I got bored of being stopped for mine years ago, so i run the normal one on the back and the spaced one on the front.
Touch wood i havent been pulled/fined in 2.5 years for it now, desptie being pulled for 'routine' checks late at night and what not.....although the fact the plate was previously on my nova may have had something to do with the repeated pulling.

Come on people, think about it.
The police use this as an excuse to pull people over and look at other things, the original poster said he was breathalised, tyres checked, insurance checked etc, this is the SOLE reason he was pulled.
I'm sorry but if you have decided that you will break the law with illegally spaced number plates then it is far more likely that you will also break the law by not having an MOT, Insurance, safe tyres, dd etc.
Fair play to the police on this one.
