Question PVC pipe

I need some 'Schedule 40 PVC pipe'.

The walls are quite thick.

Anyone know what size (MM) the walls/diameter of tube are and where I can get this?

tia.

missed some schooling somewhere ??? i would have thought a self confessed geek as yourself would know all that...

in short. schedule 40 is a specification or standard for specific requirements of pvc tubing.. it may be burst pressure or tensile strength...

do a google search

I did a google search..

It's the pressure the pipe will take but it still doesn't tell me the thickness of the walls, which I need to know.

I think it's too big think to get from my local b&q.

nevermind..

schedule relates to wall thickness in pipe terms, it is not a straightforward size table IIRC, i.e, shed 40 at 3" bore might be 7mm wall thickness, shed 40 at 10" bore might be 11mm.

Can't you use Schedule 40 red band steel pipe instead? I know the wall thickness of that is less than 2mm for smallish diameters, getting up to 2.5 at about 50mm. Schedule 40 is 40,000 psi burst pressure btw. Usually used in steam or superheated water applications.

If your thinking of using it as a cannon tube, take care....

whilst pvc tube is very rigid, you will be subjecting it to use beyond its normal specification, any known tolerances become irrelevant when subjected to extremes beyond its advised /. safe working spec.

pvc shards are like shrapnel!!
