Concorde at Heathrow...
Just got back from Heathrow and when taxi'ing (sp? never worked this one out!) to the gate there was a British Airways Concorde parked opposite the British Airways hanger. I thought they had all been taken out the UK apart from the one at Duxford Its a beautiful sight and I still can't get over the fact aviation has taken a massive step back taking Concorde out of use How come there is one parked at Heathrow? Please let it fly again!
Oh and just a comment on Italian pilots, they are as mad as Italian taxi drivers you know when you land and taxi to the gate in this country its all very sedate and relaxed, well when we landed in Rome today the pilot drove it like he stole it thought it was going to tip over at one point when cornering - fooking loony nutcase Italians (oh and I am never ever driving in Rome - makes Paris look a walk in the park)

i'm not kidding mate the taxi driver I had today would have beaten Jean Alesi round Rome, never have I felt the need for a seatbelt as much as I did today - I think they play PGR2 or GT3/4 for their driving tests They are all complete fruiti cakes on the road!

Went through London, Paris and Rome last year on hols (in a 3 tonne motorhome) In London, everyone drives like you are stealing their road... In Paris they don't seem to mind, as long as you dont need more than an inch clearance front and back. In Rome, no-one gives a fek. Seems they all drive Fiat 126's and have a complete body refit after every journey. Couldn't believe that someone in a dinky Fiat would try to run me off the road

Had the same issue in Florence en-route to the aerodrome.
Taxi driver must have been doing 70mph+ down urban streets. Narrowly missed a pair of girls who stepped out onto the road....his response was to give them a good blast of the horn!
MAD!

worst/best piece of driving I have been party to was in Les Sable de lons (sp) a few years ago. We were riding two bikes and had just been mugged for all our cash, travellers cheques, passports etc etc.Went to Police Internationale - guy came out on a bike and said 'follow me to the boat club - they will look after you' - He had blue lights and a siren - I had a zx6r with two massive throw over panniers, and wifey was on a 250 Virago. The guy was getting his knee down cuting between lanes of cars. I was touching 100 MPH trying to keep up (in traffic) - The Virago wouldn't do 100 in a wet dream. Eventually arrived and the guy said ' I am happy to meet two bikers who are so cautious' - wouldn't like to meet his version of wreckless

Yep had that as well, the near miss hit and runs were too many to count, scooters, cyclists, buses they were all fair game for my driver, I was shaking by the time I got to where I was going He had two mobile phones on the go, a television mounted on his dashboard that he was watching and he spent the rest of the time looking in his rear view mirror talking to me, I don't think he actually saw anyone of the numerous people he nearly took out Oh and a typical Italian bloke, every set of lights we stopped at (at least he saw these) he chatted up every bit of skirt in the car next to us
I told him to look out for a 1960's film called the Italian Job with Michael Caine, told him he would like it

Did you notice that BA have parked the LHR Concorde nose pointing towards the Virgin maintenance hanger, this has been done on purpose by all accounts after Branson wanted to buy them from BA.

At least two in America, then?
But wouldn't it be fair to say that the USA contributed heavily to it's eventual demise, as NO American airlines bought any, and it was ages getting permission to fly into anywhere, despite actually being less noisy than a 747?
Personally, I'd not have let them have ANY............as it is, in 50 years time, American kids will believe THEY designed and built it, and WE wrecked the project

Haha HG.
It tended to understeer unless you got it just right with the nosewheel steering and a bit of asymmetric thrust from the engines on the entry and then you could hang the back 16 wheels out. A touch of inner wheel braking helped too.

Its actually pointing dirtectly at the T4 stands, which is where Concorde used to depart from. Its parked where it is because its an old "hold" area for runway 27R.
BA had no say in where it was parked, BA dont own the airport, BAA do.
PS, Shes currently being used as an impromptu cargo facility. Sad.

You're not wrong...I just got back from Milan on a business trip and everyone is mad!!! The driver spent more time mucking about with his sat nav (which he'd already admitted he didn't know how to use!) and talking to us instead of looking where he's going!!!!!!!!! Not sure how we'd have managed to complete the training course if the attendees managed to injure the trainers

Really ??"
Sorry If I've pi$$ed anyone off with my reply, it wasn't meant to do so. However, FM looking at your address I can see you must really be Homer S so i'll make an exception, as your IQ is famously low. ;-)
I only posted as I regularly work with BA and VS and the so called "rivalry" between the 2 airlines only exists in the tabloids.
"That may well be the case but it "appears" to be pointing at the Virgin hanger from a passengers point of view when taxiing past it."
My point was BA had now say in where Concorde was parked, or its orientation. its not a BA v VS snub.
