Concorde flies for the first time!
The supersonic airliner, Concorde, has made a "faultless" maiden flight.
The Anglo-French plane took off from Toulouse and was in the air for just 27 minutes before the pilot made the decision to land.
The first pilot, Andre Turcat, said on his return to the airport: "Finally the big bird flies, and I can say now that it flies pretty well."
Brilliant Aeroplane ..... will one of those projects EVER be carried out in the UK again?
Despite the costs and delays it gave the Nation something to focus on - we desperately need something like that these days!

Much prefer the London Eye myself. No spin or public announcement b*ll*x.
The idea seemed to get developed properly and it was built with apparently little fuss.
'course they got the air-con wrong but.....

Will never forgot that day Pete, we lived over the main runway, and when it flew by everything in the house shook Why O Why did they not let Richard Branson have a go with it.

O and the computer systems side of it would be over-complex, over schedule and over budget!
