Pension, how much is it worth ?
I currently work in local govenment (Police Support staff) and pay pension contributions to the LGSS (Local Govenment Superannuation Scheme), have been looking at the job market but you cannot base a move on salary alone, obviously I would no longer be eligible for the LGSS, my contribution is 6% of my basic salry and my employer puts 10% in on top, so each month there is over 400 quid going in so the employers contributions are worth about 3000 a year by my (simplistic) calculations.
Somebody at work reckons that to match it with a personal pension I would need to put 1100 quid a month in as its based on final salary.
So if I got another job would I really need to find one that pays 13000 Per annum more than I get to match the salary + pension or just 3000 more to match the employers contribution ?
They are trying to change this pension so it might not be around when I retire (currently 34)
