Weight gain for a 19 year old lad
My eldest wants to increase his weight by about a stone before summer. He's 6 foot, and weighs 10 stones. He has muscles but from the side he's rail thin, not an ounce of spare flesh anywhere.
Can anyone suggest where I might find a weight GAIN diet to help him? He does weights and has a sit up machine to tone muscles, and also rides a trials MTB.
One of his mates has suggested those weight gain powders available from the chemist, but I'm more than a bit sceptical!
TIA,
Alcazar

weight gainers are generally just filled with sugar.
have him eat a high calorie diet of natural clean foods. combined with a proper weight training routine, the mass will go on... in a good way.

Heavier weights and eat more (high protein and healthy).
There are various powders and supplements available for gaining mass/lean muscle, high carb/low carb etc.
I used to be skinny as hell but now weigh about 14.5 stone (I am 6'3). I just eat properly, use free weights 3 times a week and have a protein shake before bed and 1st thing in the morning.

When I went to uni I was just under 10 stone - about 5'11/6'. By the first Xmas I had put on 3/4 stone - just because I was eating more and doing more organised sport etc. Went up to 10 st 10lbs where I stuck for several years but I was running lots of miles at the time. Your lad is just that - still a lad.... but I bet he doesn't want to think so! Just tell him to eat healthy and exercise and the weight will come. Unless he's really training for something (like being in the Man U first team1) then tell him to exercise for fun. Footie with his mates and some gym work for that. None of this supplements bo((ux!
Actually, tell him to get married and the weight will pile on .... :-)

Mate, it is not something you can do too fast.
March '94 I was just under 9 stone.
Now I am 14.5 stone, I did go up to 16 stone at one point though, for a 6' 4" lad I could carry it okay, but I did have a bit of a pod.
Now
My recommendation to him is to exercise and eat resonably healthily and let the weight come on.
My big problem is I smoked, that is why I looked like I was about to die! I gave up the smokes and suddenly I was hungry on a daily basis, went down the gym and sorted it out. I went from a very baggy 28" waste to a tight 36" waste in about 2 - 3 years.
Good luck!
Oh, forget the stinking building muscle drinks, all they will do is give you a beer gut! Especially the carb drinks, unless you are working out hard! Again, I am talking from experience on that one.

Best way to gain weight is to eat properly and become a lazy ba$tid (except when in the gym of course).
When I started with weights and previosly I had been into running, I ran rather than walked, got the bus rather than walked etc.
In the course of three to four months I went from 8st 11lbs to 11st.

You certainly look better for the weight...
my problem was that I looked like you in the second pic and was about 14.5 stone when I quit the **** 2.5 years ago...
went to 17st 4lb in the first year (5'10" so can't carry it well) then got hooked on the gym and started playing squash again dropped to 14.4 st in 6 months - % body fat went down to 15% then bu@@ered my knee playing squash, became sedentary again and am now sitting on 16.5st.......
Knee just about ok now though so I think it's time to make up with David Lloyd's membership department and do something about it!
