LOL you lot!!
If you know for a *fact* they don't feel that way about you, why sacrifice it?
And if they see you as a best mate they obviously seem to think you are decent, trustworthy and may possibly well turn to you in a time of need; as I expect they would want you to do too!
On the other hand, go out on a Saturday night, get really drunk and tell them; if they don't return your feelings blame it on the drink the next day and apologise profusely
My thoughts

Well, if they have not returned your feelings I suggest you give up; if their friendship means anything to you then by all means continue it if you feel you can cope, even if only for the time being!

If you've only been good mates with them for 3 years because you've been trying to get your end away than you won't have anything to loose by telling them. If you don't you're just wasting your time. However if you are really good friends with them and care about their feeling try to bring up the topic of whether or not you being a couple would work one evening after a few drinks.

Stay mates and say nothing is my advice.
After three years neither has made any advance to each other so any chemistry re:sleeping together must be lacking somewhere/never going to happen.
Just imo.

Sally: We are just going to be friends, OK?
Harry: Great, friends. It's the best thing...You realize, of course, that we can never be friends.
Sally: Why not?
Harry: What I'm saying is - and this is not a come-on in any way, shape, or form - is that men and women can't be friends, because the sex part always gets in the way.
Sally: That's not true. I have a number of men friends and there is no sex involved.
Harry: No, you don't.
Sally: Yes, I do.
Harry: No, you don't.
Sally: Yes, I do.
Harry: You only think you do.
Sally: You're saying I'm having sex with these men without my knowledge?
Harry: No, what I'm saying is they all want to have sex with you.
Sally: They do not.
Harry: Do too.
Sally: They do not.
Harry: Do too.
Sally: How do you know?
Harry: Because no man can be friends with a woman that he finds attractive. He always wants to have sex with her.
Sally: So you're saying that a man can be friends with a woman he finds unattractive.
Harry: No, you pretty much want to nail them, too.
Sally: What if they don't want to have sex with you?
Harry: Doesn't matter, because the sex thing is already out there, so the friendship is ultimately doomed, and that is the end of the story.
