Default The end of the road for BMW's ?

See story about some Nissan technology here:
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/cus...,2964317.story

The interesting bit which if adopted by other car makers could spell trouble for some:

"Lane Departure Prevention" combines a camera and computerized devices
that control braking for front and rear wheels, nudging the car in the
right direction. The feature disengages when you hit the turn signal, so
you can change lanes and make turns.

I can see it now - all the BMW drivers stuck in Lane 3 going round and round the M25 for days, unable to change lanes because you have to indicate to disengage the system...

So shouldn't your title be "No end of the road for BMWs"?

I saw a scoob in the outside lane of the motorway this morning, doing 65. Therefore I conclude that the same problem will apply to Scoobs - BTW - He had all his foglights on

Wrap it up as a safety device for now and then nudge it in to becoming a control device in a couple of years!

Must be a grain of truth in it if it has been observed by so many people for so long !

Are you really so naíve that you don't believe this sort of thing is going to happen? You've read hedgehog 'banging on' about ISA and thought the same no doubt. Have you seen him refer to testing being undertaken at the University of Leeds? Well I work there and I'd like to draw your attention to the following .pdf files if I may. If you take the time to read through them you'll see it's very real, it's very viable and the tests are being undertaken with such a pro-bias it's unbelievable that a University is doing them.
