Dubai - Hotel recommendations
Oi Oi ScoobMeisters - Looking for a recommendation for a decent hotel in Dubai. Not wanting to spend a Gazillion Quid but not wanting to end up in a flea pit either, 3 Star / 4 Star would be fine as far as I can tell.
Anyone got any info ?
Cheers

Most of the places are farly relaxed women can walk around with hair on show but we where advised that they should cover their shoulders etc.
Booze was not a problem as log as not drinking it in the street. No problem getting it served at the hotel or the beach attached to the hotel.
Went the first time during ramadam, only restriction was could not been seen drinking in the street and had to go into special ramadan tent for drinks.

richard muslims have their becks alcohol free beer their, i see arabs drinking it all the time
but some drink the alcohol stuff too, they go their to do their dirty work
if their was a prophet here today, dubai will get blasted like soddom and gomorrah
mate 0.05 % alcohol, how is that alcohol free, ive been told lucozade and banana's have the same amount and bramble apples
is this true, becks seem to be the biggest importer to arab lands for alcohol free beer

Meridian Hotels.
Just come back from a holiday in Australia and we stopped in Dubai on the way out and the way back.
On the way out, Le Meridian near the airport, very plush but with a great irish pub in the resort complex. Very conveniently located for Deira city centre mall which is superb for shopping.
On the way back, Le Merdian Mina Seyah at Jumerah beach, also nice right on the beach next to the Marina. This is close to the mosque if you are a culture vulture. About 1m down the coast from the Burj Al Arab.
The Le Meridian hotels are miles apart, literally 25 mins in a high speed taxi ! so it depends where you want to be and what you want to do.
Don't know about prices though since it was all in with the Australian flights from Emirates but I can recommend both hotels.
Cheers,
RickJ.

Not rich mate, I think it was more luck than anything else, we got a special deal with the flights and those were hotels we picked from the list that were available.
Have you already sorted your flights ?
Like I said it was a deal thrown in with the flights, so maybe check the emirates web site for special hotel deals.

Hotel prices vary enormously depending on the season. They are cheap when Dubai "hot" (May-September ish) and very expensive for the top hotels in the cooler season. In june you could probably pick a 4-5 star Jumairah area hotel for £60. But about 2.5-3 times that in December.

Like rickj said, try and go for a airline/hotel package. We stayed at the Taj Palace, which was very nice but 5 star I think. Even the 4 star hotels out there are a very high standard.
Also went to the Burj al Arab one night and had a few drinks in the bar. Parked outside were loads of Ferraris and fancy Mercs, mainly with Sharjah number plates, so the rich Sheiks can come over and enjoy some alcohol. You have to pay to enter if you're not a resident but can claim back the entrance against drinks. They also have a dress code - if you're wearing short sleeved shirts, shorts or open sandals you aint coming in.

You have to go here http://www.madinatjumeirah.com absolutely the best hotel in dubai at the moment and new too.
sooks/4 restaurants all superb/own beach/3 bars i know of may be more.
If you dont stay then you must visit.
Dont miss happy hour at the Jumeirah Beach hotel or cheap lunch at the Burj al Arab-make a booking and you get across the causeway for free.

Took my Wife there for a surprise 30th Birthday present last year, got a good deal on a very nice suite there for approx £400 per night.
Great place to stay. I/we have stayed at some very nice hotels but no other hotel will seem the same. Having said that I was surprised to find out that there are still more expensive hotels around the World!
Definately going back at some stage.
