Doesn't checking your rating make it worse?

I once enquired about a loan and was told by the company that if they sent me the figures, they'd have to do a credit check beforehand and too many checks was a black mark against you as you're using the system without signing up for anything and "they" don't make a gain out of you so they "get their own back"

Things might have changed but I wouldn't try finding out too often - maybe OK to see if the info they hold on you is OK for Data Protection etc...

I'm getting out of my depth on the legal side of things so I'll belt up

I checked my rating with a company online and from thereon I was bombarded with emails telling me how important it was too regularly check my rating with loads of scaremongering about identity theft.

ive looked at experian, but the free trial costs £40+ but you get it back after a month/year - my mind has blanked it out cos im sure like all the other things you when you try to cancel your contract another month goes by/ another fee - could do without all that hassle

want a one off fee if a must pay. are they any good, useful to know, show all bad things & are you able to remove all bad things?
